Announcing a new Meetup for Ann Arbor Classics Book Group!
What: Dystopian BookFest- A literary genre highlight event
When: January 27,[masked]:30 PM
Dues: $1.00 per person
Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
Many members voted in our recent "2010 Discussion Timing" polls and decided to change our Thursday discussions to Wednesdays. Well, our first Wednesday discussion of 2010 will be a doozy! We are reading 8, count 'em e-i-g-h-t, books for a literary genre highlight event. We will be focusing in on Dystopian literature. You certainly do not have to read all of the books, even one or two is okay--just read what you can. Our selections are:
? 1984 by George Orwell
? A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
? We by Yevgeny Zamiatin
? The Handmaid?s Tale by Margaret Atwood
? Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
? Neuromancer by William Gibson
? The Iron Heel by Jack London
? The Time machine by HG Wells
I, myself, have only read the first 5 listed (and up to 8 years ago, at that). I will try to read the other 3 in time, but remember--just read what you can (that's our mantra). And, yes, I am fully aware that this beast of a book discussion is being scheduled between Les Miserables and (likely) Anna Karenina. Am I a masochist or what?
Our location is TBD.
