Speaker Biography
Presentation Abstract:
Where do you recommend we start with Big Data? Well, DAMA wants to introduce the foundations of BigData technologies by discussing Apache Hadoop. Presented by Daniel Totten and Jordan Martz, a quick baseline of the technologies will be introduced.
Companies generate more data on a daily basis than ever before, and there’s a lot of untapped business value in that big data. In order to gain a competitive edge, you need to figure out how to analyze this influx of “big data” to glean useful insights. With the right tools to gather and analyze your mountain of data, you can identify actionable business opportunities. But how do you get started? And how can you capture and store data in way that won’t break the bank? Ask yourself the following questions:
What kind of data am I currently generating?
What kind of advantages would I gain from analyzing my data in real time?
How can I best use this data and incorporate it into our business practices?
Russ Lankenau and Peter McClure from MapR will provide an introduction to sourcing and maintaining data from Pig and Hive the Data Extraction framework for Hadoop. Using the Moneyball example, prepare for an insightful opportunity to learn about the technologies that every CIO wants an answer for today.
