Winter shoot at Parker Mill County Park

Join us at this pretty park for a winter walk-and-shoot. There are hills and a creek running through it which photograph nicely in the snow.

Also, there is a path through a wooded are with lookouts. Hopefully we'll see some snowy landscapes:

Boots would be a good idea.

Official meetup time at Parker Mills is 8:30.

If anyone is interested in carpooling, I live near County Farm park and could use a ride (or we could meet at the Starbuck's at Arborland and leave at 8 AM).

Cheers,

Frank

p.s. see Comments below for a note about parking. The main lot at Parker Mill is closed off. A few cars might be able to park by the road next to the park/Mill. But another option is to park at the small lot off Dixboro Road and walk along the boardwalk and path to the Mill (1/4 mile?). This lot appears on p. 2 toward the bottom of the page, near Dixboro Rd.:  https://www.press.umich.edu/pdf/9780472033300-gallupparkride.pdf

Thanks, Kanye, it was nice to meet you too! We had a nice group and some light, fluffy snow, large flakes, almost like a snow globe. See you at another meetup down the road... I'll see if we can create one like we talked about during the shoot.

Plow was nice enough to leave a big pile in my driveway, but I finally escaped. Should be there by 8:40

Snow, pretty snow is falling slowly and sticking to the trees. Should be a fun shoot! I'm bringing extra microfiber cloths and a modifies gallon Ziplock bag to serve as a cheap camera cover (and I am bringing a "real" cover too, just in case)

I too wanted to attend but I can't get a ride

Rats, sorry, Tze. For some reason I didn't see your ride posts until early this morning. Next time I'll try to be more proactive about ride sharing / carpools. Hope to see you on another shoot soon.

I just received an email back from the director of parks; The gate on Geddes Road will be open Sunday Morning by 8:30.

I'm looking to carpool over with someone too. I live near County Farm Park and Allen Elementary in A2. I will gladly buy you breakfast, lunch, coffee/tea, or just throw in some $$ for gas (your choice!). Let me know if I can catch a ride with you... thanks!

Hi! Are any of you from Ann Arbor area (near to Stephen Ross School of Business)?

Need to get out of the house even if it's freezing. Anyone coming from the Farmington/Livonia area?

I passed by the park today. Even though the gate was still locked I saw that the parking lot is plowed. So as Robert said it might be open during the weekend. Sorry for the wrong information.

I'm glad that you mentioned it-- thank you, Bhumsoo. We did attach the website below that has a map for the parking lot off Dixboro near Geddes. Attendees have more parking options just in case the gate isn't raised.

The gate on Geddes is usually open on Weekends.

The park is closed for the winter. It does not mean that you cannot walk the park and shoot (I actually did yesterday). The only problem will be the parking since the lot is fenced off and there are only a limited space just outside the park.

    • Frank K.

Rats, I hadn't heard that until now. We could park at the little lot below Gallop, maybe? Check this link-- there is a little lot on the map at the bottom of Page 2, at the bottom of the page, just off Dixboro Road: https://www.press.umic...

Yes you can access Parker Mill from the dam area at the bottom of Old Dixboro; it will be about a quarter mile walk. It is a nice path through a bridge and boardwalk. The only potential problem is that Old Dixboro is a steep hill. So it better be cleared by then.
