Film Only Phototowalk : Downtown Ann Arbor

Dust off your film camera, load a roll of film and join us for a photo walk! We will meet at Starbucks on Main St. Ann Arbor and head towards Kerrytown. There is no fixed theme for the shoot, so we shoot what we like. Hope to you see you there!

First time attending one of these events, was great to meet people with shared interest as well as dust off some film gear even if the dust ended up in the prints.

UGH! Sorry for me that I cannot make this now. My children's schedule dictates my schedule a lot :-( I miss you guys too!!

I am going to have to bow out. The conflict with my wife's event cannot be resolved. Still, the film event is very appealing. I'd like to see it again.

Wow. I was really looking forward to this but I may have to ditch because of a scheduling conflict with a corporate dinner for my my wife's employer. I'd love to see another shoot like this. In terms of my publication successes, I've had my photos published in the Ontario Review. I've also had photos demonstrated at the Scarab Club and the Toledo Museum of Art. These were all film based photos. I've had other publication successes with print and online journals and even these successes were based on my film based photos. My film base work is all B & W and I still don't think that the digital B & W (grayscale) world quite matches up to the digital color world. After all, color photographs, to some degree, try to match the real world. In contrast, B & W photography can't ever literally match the real world but I think B & W photography can match the emotional truth or the real world.

This sounds a great idea even though I do not have film camera. I want to try one; can you recommend a intro level camera; something equivalent like Nikon D5000 or D7000. Thanks

    • Kiran B.

Hey Bhumsoo! Um.. I'm not. Nikon guy but I know their F series is good. Hopefully someone familiar with the series will reply!

I could bring two additional Nikons if that would help? I have a F100 and a N9000 and one or two primes (or a kit lens) that could be interesting to a new film user.

I wish I could say yes, I am dependent on the VA to get me home on Thursdays, Sometimes they get me home by 5 buy other times I am not even home until 7. So for now I am going to say no. Just do not be surprised if I just show up. (Wink) I would like to join you very much. All I can say I will try.

This will be my first event with the group, looking forward to it, now to find a battery for an old OM.

    April 10

    • Kiran B.

Great to have you! Which OM do you have? If you are okay not using the lightmeter you can do without the battery :)

      April 10

    • Paul

Yep, I'll plan on bringing a handheld with me. I'll probably bring an OM 1 or 2 with me; I've got a 4 but it needs new light seals.
