I have been into photography for about 3 years now. I got into it mostly because of my kids as discussed above.
I currently use a NIkon D-5000 which replaced a Nikon D-90. I love my zoom lens [masked]) made by Tamron; it was cheaper than the Nikon equivalent and seems to work real well (I had checked with a friend in the industry and he said it was good).
I mostly enjoy taking candid shots of my kids while they play or do whatever, but I also enjoy nature shots. I recently went to the Detroit Zoo and got a lot of great pics of the animals, really enjoying those pics right now. I would really like to learn more about using the features of my camera, I still definitely consider myself a real beginner. For example, I would like to learn to shoot great macro pics and I would like to learn the post-production end of photography.
I would like to improve my photography by learning the settings on my camera and exactly how to use them to make my shots even better. And, as I said above, I would like to learn macro photography. Right now, my goals are to enjoy photography as a hobby (I have blown up and framed some of my best/favorite shots involving my kids), but if I were to truly improve, maybe turn the hobby into a job/career.
I heard about Meetup from a friend who heard about it from a friend so I just googled it for this area. I am recently divorced and thought it would be a great way to meet new people and I think that the whole idea of specialized Meetup groups, i.e. shutter bugs for photography, is a great idea.
Hello, my name is Jim. I have been really interested in photography for about 3 years now. I currently use a Nikon D-5000 (prior camera was a D-90). I got into photography mostly because of my kids (son, 10, and daughter, 7).
