Hi,
Thanks for visiting the Ann Arbor International Group! I started this group on May 17th 2008, only two days after moving from New York City to Ann Arbor.

Our History
When I moved to Ann Arbor I thought, “wouldn’t it be great to develop an international community here as I experienced in NYC at International House ( http://www.ihouse-nyc... )!” And so, I started this group by organizing monthly dinners at local ethnic restaurants. Within a few months I began to make friends and the group size started to increase. We currently have over 300 members from over 50 countries.

What we do together
Now in addition to sharing great conversations over long meals we enjoy a variety of other activities such as a potluck party in one of our organizer’s homes with free and fabulous Salsa and Bollywood dancing lessons provided by our very own members. We sample wines of the world through our discounted group wine tastings and enjoy cultural performances at a significantly reduced rate exclusive to our group members. We have even organized a benefit event with the help of our professional group member performers and raised money for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.

Our Purpose
We have a wonderful group of people and together we have created this precious international community. Our members and organizers are warm and inviting and are willing to get together to try a variety of activities, which is just great! New members are welcomed and are never given the opportunity to feel left out. The ultimate goal of our group is to develop meaningful relationships, long lasting friendships while contributing in meaningful ways to our local Ann Arbor community.

Costs Associated with Running The Group
In addition to time and effort, there are a number of associated costs including monthly meetup website fees as well as other incidental costs like name tags, signs and other unexpected expenses.

Membership Dues
$10.61/six months (.61 reflects paypal fees)
New members are welcome to attend two meetup events before deciding to become an official member. Prior to attending a third event, members must pay their membership dues which will be valid for a period of six months. Once a member has payed their dues the renewal date will be posted on their profile.

Contributions will help pay towards past costs as well as upcoming ones in addition to any extra costs associated with running the group. As the group grows, this will help us expand the scope of our activities.
