We are a diverse group that will meet monthly to share our observations, insights, and sometimes personal lessons that we find in the Great Books, fiction and non-fiction works, that still change the world.

We use the Great Books Foundation's assorted collections, like "The Great Books Reading and Discussion Program" Series to allow us to make easy and quick reference to whichever text we're discussing.

Great Books offer insights into the human experience and common challenges to living a good life well, and offer happiness and hope for today and into the future.

It's always a good time to read the greatest writings of all times, and better times are enjoyed when discussing Great Books with happy, hopeful fellow readers. Join us soon.

The new Anoka Great Books Discussion Group will have as its first text _Great Conversations 1_ ADU-GC1 | ISBN 978-0-945159-34-6 | Softcover | 544 pages and available directly from The Great Books Foundation via

Here's a brief description from the above web page:

Great Conversations 1, an anthology of fifteen classic and contemporary selections, is ideal for book discussion groups and college humanities courses. Biographical headnotes and discussion questions accompany each selection, and a thematic guide offers suggestions for reading the selections across genres and disciplines.

We will read and discuss one chapter of the 15 chapters each month, starting on Thursday evening, May 15, 6:30-8 PM. We'll continue through the year on the third Thursday evenings of each month (exception will be July 24, the fourth Thursday of July). All 15 readings are listed at the above web page.

Initially in 2014 we'll be meeting the last Friday's of March and April from 9 AM - 10:15 AM to get acquainted, distribute the "Shared Enquiry Handbook" text to new group members, and survey with anticipation our text's readings for the coming year. We take a brief break mid-way for refreshments.

Please recommend other meeting times that may better suit your personal schedules, and with enough interest we can begin a second section that meets on another day and/or at other time of day.
