April Accountability Session, Option 2 of 2

  • Apr 29, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

***Only members who have attended at least one meetup in the last six months permitted***

This is the first monthly instance of our accountability sessions.  The plan is to have two options each month, hoping that those who want to join us will be able to go to one or the other.  You are welcome to attend both sessions, if you would like to do so.

Each  session will include time to: get to know each other, report on how we're doing regarding our goals for our anti-racism work, receive feedback from our peers, and silent reflection.

If time allows, we can also role-play tough situations involving responding to racist comments or behavior.

Remember to bring your notebook, if you have one!  (I'll bring a few extra for anyone who hasn't come to an accountability session before.)

For more about our thoughts on these sessions, see "Open discussion to consider monthly accountability sessions."

When you RSVP, you will be asked about a goal you are working on.  If you don't yet have a goal, you might consider something from this: Commitment to Combat Racism

    Hi Everyone,

I came across this article and thought it very pertinent to this meet up group: http://globalcomment.com/watching-boston-as-an-arab-american-in-palestine/

I'm looking forward to our meeting.

    Best,

Sorry, every time I hit enter it was a reply -- that should have all been one post!

The "option 1" session taught us that the check-in time can take a lot longer than we expected. We ended up leaving the silent reflection for people to do on their own. We'll see how it works for "option 2." We should definitely split up into smaller groups for that part of the session, possibly groups of 3-4.

I just realized I have a class Mondays now--White People Challenging Racism at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. I'm going to try to go to the other option instead. If I can't, I'll post my thoughts about power dynamics for someone to share.
