In this installment of our monthly film series, we will watch the classic Star Trek episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield."  In this episode, Lokai, who is black on the left and white on the right, is a fugitive being pursued by Bele, who is white on the left and black on the right.  This 1969 episode provides a strong metaphor against racism, and yet also says much about white liberal racism and what white ideas of a post-racial society are like.  Join us as we pick apart one of the best known episodes of Star Trek and discuss the complicated relationship between race and science fiction.

I'm sad that I can't attend. I will watch on my own and hopefully this will come up in the liberal talk.

Fair warning: I may be a few minutes late but I'll be there.

The only thing that could keep me from going to this is a house mtg, and we've got a house mtg scheduled for then. But I informed some Trekkie friends.

Drat! I have weekly work meetings on Tuesday nights for the next few months, so I have to miss this, but it sounds like so much fun! Enjoy!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
