"Waking Up White" event and debrief

This is one of the events to launch Debby Irving's book Waking Up White.  On this night Shay Stewart-Bouley, the new Executive Director of Community Change, Inc., will interview Debby, and a lively conversation is promised.  There will also be copies of Debby's book for sale and she'll be signing them.

We'll attend the book launch, then gather at a local establishment to share our reflections on the event for about half an hour.  We'll decide on the location for gathering in the comment section of this meetup.

You can visit Debby's website and get more information on her book here: http://debbyirving.com/the-book/

I updated the attendance to show those who attended the reflection. It was great that others were able to attend the book launch itself! (If I missed anyone, please let me know!)

I've got a cold, so if I'm feeling as icky later as I am now I'll do everyone the favor of not coming. :(

Hi all. I have been following this meet up for almost a year and have decided it is time to make time to actually get involved. See you all on Monday!

You don't see a way to RSVP? We'll have to figure out how to get that working for you!

I got it :) I think the confusion was that I thought I had already done that and was thinking there was an extra step but apparently I just had not RSVPed.

If you can't be there in person tonight, CCI is planning to stream the event live. Here's a link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/pappenheimlibrary?utm_campaign=ustre-am&utm_source=ustre-am&utm_medium=social

So glad it will be streaming! I'm also feeling under the weather so I will watch from home as well. Many thanks!

We'll split up into groups of 4-5 people after the event to reflect on it. I'll plan to wait inside the door of the room to help coordinate this. If you want to buy a book and/or get one signed, we'll plan to have a group (or multiple one) that goes later. Looking forward to the event and discussing it with all of you!

For those of you I haven't met, I am a white woman, I wear glasses, and I will be wearing a blue coat and a blue knitted scarf.

Sure I would love to join the conversation. First I would like to say it was a great experience sitting and talking with all of you last week. I get excited when I have those kinds of opportunities so I hope I was not overwhelming anyone. I'll get better. Second, when I read the title of the book my first reaction was to start laughing. I remember reading
Black Like Me, years ago. He was not very happy once he began to wake up Black...Anyway I can't wait the hear the conversation and read the book.

Hi everyone! Great to see the interest in this. Please throw out suggestions for where we can meet afterwards to reflect on the event. We'll probably split up into small groups and go to different places in order not to overwhelm one place. It's probably best if locations are in close proximity to the theater so we won't have to spend too much time getting to a place.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
