"The Alchemy of Human Kindness" Community singing event and reflection

Listen to beautiful singing by Voices of Harmony and Champion Voices, and join in to celebrate heroes for social change in this community singing event.

Afterwards (at 4:30) our group will gather at a local establishment (in Roslindale) for half an hour or so to reflect on the event.  We'll decide on the location for gathering in the comment section of this meetup.

From the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/events/464137583690343:

Alchemy: A mysterious power or process of transforming something common, from its essential pieces, into something big, magical, unique, and/or powerful.

This event honors the efforts of two deceased heroes of social change, Martin Luther King, Jr. and the recently late Nelson Mandela. Both of these men created communities of people devoted to service. We also want to be reminded of all these people that didn't receive as much acclaim but made small efforts (some life threatening) to make huge positive changes. While we remember them, we want to sing songs of freedom that helped them along the way.

Please consider bringing songs to lead that teach us about the values and efforts of these people. We hope that everyone will get a chance to share and will bring our own just in case. Come ready to sing along. (Lyrics sheets will be provided.)

Lose yourself in song, rejoice in appreciation of big and small heroes, connect with an open and accepting community, and share a piece of your essence.

If you are able please bring an appetizer or dessert to share.

After the program we can meet inside the room near the exit and decide where to go from there. I'll be wearing a blue coat with a blue knitted scarf.

I won't be able to meet with you all afterwards, because I have to stay to clean up. But I hope the event inspires a fruitful discussion!

"What did you feel watching the performances? How did you feel singing along?"
"What does being a hero mean to you?"
"What are some strategies we can use to balance our intent to make our communities more just and equitable with our individual needs to take care of ourselves?"

I'd love to hear what answers people come up with!

I'll be singing with Voices of Harmony. And my parents will be in the audience. Nancy, thank you for sharing this with the Knapsackers! Everyone else, please let me know if you have any questions.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
