Do you believe racism has been eradicated?

No, I do not believe that racism has been erradicated. It is clear to me that racism is deeply imbedded in global politics and in the minds of white folks.

Do you believe that whiteness plays a role in racism?

Yes. White people are responsible for using racial differences to justify oppression. The systems our ancestors created and that we perpetuate keep us in privilege and keep people of color oppressed. It's our responsibility to continue learning, witness one another's mistakes with compassion and hold one another accountable for learning from and changing our behavior, and to carry the word of white privilege and anti-racism activism to other white people who are also perpetuating systemic racism.

Do you have a favorite author/blogger/musician/artist/ film/etc. focusing on racism? Why?

Audre Lorde, bell hooks, and Paolo Freire. I appreciate how each author address racism with honesty and with hope. I am particularly interested in Lorde's essay on "Using the Masters Tools to Dismantle the Masters House" and "Hierarchy of Oppression" and Freire's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed".

I'm a 25 year old white lesbian queer (with cis-passing privilege) female living in Jamaica Plain and in Northampton in the summertime while I complete my masters in social work.
