Tuesday Night Free Lecture: Bees!

Join Brian Lacy of LIVEHONEYBEES.com at The Jack London Bar for its weekly lecture series. The topic,"Bees!"
Bee populations around the world are collapsing. Few urban folk know much if anything about bees; from what they look like, behave like or especially that 40% of our food, and 90% of the most delicious/nutritious foods are completely dependent on bees. Our Bond with Bees strives to engross the senses and mind so participants will want to know and nurture bees even more.
Program description
This PowerPoint program combines filmed clips, quizzes with prizes, lively audience participation – it fills them with the sights and sounds of bees and their magical ways that have fascinated humankind since prehistory.
We travel inside hives – see how bees:
* Cook invading hornets to save the colony.
* Dance to tell their sisters exactly where nectar, pollen - even where their new home is.
* Heat themselves to 95 degrees in mid-winter to tend more and more baby bees.
We travel around the world and though time to see how:
* Ancient cultures believed gods and bees gave life to the Earth.
* The art of honey hunting exists today in several cultures.
* Bees and honey were used as weapons in warfare.
* Bees' democratic social order were cited as cause for the colonies to revolt from England.
and much, much more!

The Jack London is located in the basement of The Rialto Pool Room at 529 SW 4th AVe. 21+ only please. Join us every Tuesday night for a free lecture. Doors open at 6. Lectures at 7:30. Happy hour food and drink specials available until 7p.m. Full bar.

Kudos to all of you who do not consume the bee's honey, which belongs to them, and we steal it away during winter and feed them sugar water.I love bee's too,and they are dying out due to several reasons! We should let them be, to live their lives. They can live with out intervention by humans, but we can't live with out them!Such gentle loving creatures. Why do we think we have to dominate them?

Last summer I attended a showing of, "Queen of the Sun", my first introduction into the world of bees. I loved it. Afterward my husband and I attended a workshop on honey bees, hives, bee keeping etc. I highly recommend both the movie and any lecture that will educate folks on this amazing species.

I was a bee keeper for several years, built my own hive & extractor. Finally, some disease wiped them out. I miss them.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
