Hike the 5T Trail: Train, Trail, Tram, Trolly, & Tunes!

4T = Train, Trail, Tram, & Trolly

5T = Train, Trail, Tram, Trolly, & Tunes... Noon Tunes that is!

Looking for a great way to spend the morning? Take a hike on the 4T & join me for Noon Tunes Summer Concert Series.

Take the Train (or drive) and meet me at 9:00am outside the MAX Zoo Station (at the surface - see the picture below), near the 4T Trail signs.  From the Zoo we will hike the 4.1 mile Forest Trail (I am a slower hike leader, my pace is approx. 2MPH so this portion of the 4T should take us approx. 2 hrs). Enjoy a hike among the trees from the Zoo to Council Crest (highest elevation w/in city limits of PDX) and then to the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), where you will glide down the hill in the aerial Tram (a 5 minute ride) overlooking scenic views of the river and SW Portland, and then board the Trolley to the heart of Downtown (a 20 minute ride). We get off the Trolly at SW 10th & SW Yamhill St.  We now have options.... do you get on the Train and head back to the Zoo/your vehicle/home... or do you head over to Pioneer Courthouse Square for Noon Tunes before heading home?  You can make the decision when we get there but my mind's already made up, I'm heading to check out Noon Tunes!  It's summertime!  Enjoy Portland!

    What a pleasure to walk in the trees on a warm summer day! I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to experience a new hike and take my first rides on the tram and trolly. The elevation gain of this hike made it a challenge for me, but it was exactly what I needed to continue gaining strength, so thanks Greta and everybody. Greta, you're an awesome hike leader, it was easy to find you, and I agree with Alison that you posses a wealth of information about outdoor adventures!

    Another great hike on the 4T Trail! BEAUTIFUL WEATHER: blue skies & a slight breeze. Most of this hike is in the trees so you're not getting baked on sunny days like today. Great views of Rainier, St. Helens, & Hood from Council Crest. And, of course, great view of Hood from the Tram. There was a nice crowd in Pioneer Square, some brave people dancing to the live music and... food carts! Bunk Sandwiches has a cart there on Noon Tunes day.... they've been featured on the Food Network and written up in Portland Monthly, Food & Wine, and the New York Times! YUM!!

    I'm leaving my house at 7:25 to take the MAX and don't see any e-mail from you with a phone number, so hoping I see you all. This sounds fun!

    Look for me tomorrow outside the Zoo MAX Station (surface) - see the picture in the Event description.... I will be right there. It's the MAX Station closest to the Zoo, NOT the Forestry Center. I will be wearing hiking boots, black capri's, a long sleeve white shirt, a red & white checked baseball hat and I will have the MeetUp sign, trekking poles, and an ugly reddish/rust-ish colored daypack.
