Synopsis:  In WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, a seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank (Bill Sage, “Boardwalk Empire”) rules his family with a rigorous fervor, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost. As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris (Ambyr Childers, THE MASTER) and Rose (Julia Garner, MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR) are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years. WE ARE WHAT WE ARE also stars Michael Parks (DJANGO UNCHAINED), Golden Globe Nominee Kelly McGillis (WITNESS), Nick Damici (STAKELAND), Wyatt Russell (THIS IS 40) and newcomer Jack Gore. WE ARE WHAT WE ARE was written by Mickle and Damici.

Stars: Bill Sage, Ambyr Childers, Julia Garner

This movie was based on a previously released foreign movie so I already knew the premise. It did stray a little from the original, but I was not as shocked as it appears everyone else was based on their comments. It certainly wasn't my favorite movie, but I enjoy variety. And when it's free, I have a much more difficult time complaining about the movie. Thanks again Gary for the pass.

Good morning folks. I have to refrain from feeling a bit embarrassed about this pos. I just have to remember that I only volunteer to host these event as free opportunities offered to me and that I don't have the chance to fully screen these prior to showing them. I can't win them all. We've had a great run with the last few Early Entrance screenings that I'm proud, and like BlackJack, we have a loser every so often. :) Like I was told last night... "It can't get any worse than this. They can only get better!"

Like they say, "we have to have the bad to appreciate the good so much more..."

Have a great day all, and see you at the next one (I don't know when that is yet.), hopefully soon!

Sorry, friends. I just saw the trailer and I didn't realize that the film will be as disturbing as it apparently will be. So, I won't be there. Please do invite me to non-horror shows. Thanks!

    1 · October 7, 2013

    • Fhyre P.

Sorry. I will screen the trailers before joining next time.

    • Heather

Fhyre, welcome to Anyone Can Join! Just to clarify, the new event announcements, which Meetup has now renamed to "Invitation" go out automatically to the entire group. As organizers, we can't pick and choose who we send them to. I just wanted you to know this so there is no confusion the next time a horror film comes up and you get a notification for it. :)

This event also had many No-Shows and last minute cancellations. Because of the nature of this film I feel compelled to honor an allowance for this particular event. The No-Show Policy will resume at the next movie. Thanks.

First time I've left a theater after a movie in a daze wondering WTF did I just see? So wrong on so many levels. The whole movie was like terrible sex with someone who only learned about sex via a for dummies book. All suspenseful build up, no release...till the end but at the end its not a good release...you get no "happy" no, its all eeeew and ick and wtf wtf wtf........ Horrific movie on so many levels lol. At least I wont be scared to be alone tonight I'm too disturbed and annoyed by the movie to be scared.....

I'm glad I started this comment blog with a suggested disclaimer, Horror. Should have been Horrific like Jen said. NOT in my top 1,000 list! I had the same response, wtf...

sorry folks, leaving this group. too many daily e-mails. i've gone into the settings, _several_ _times_, and tried to find a setting to limit the e-mails or make it a daily digest, but nothing has worked. i'm glad so many of you enjoy these meet-ups, but the signal-to-noise ratio on this meetup.com group is simply too high for me, and as i said, i have tried, several times, to re-do my settings here and nothing has worked. enjoy your eleventy-eleven meet-ups per week.

Well that was a bizarre movie. I couldn't stop laughing at the end it was so odd. Not really scary but all just kind of silly. Nice to see everybody. Thanks again, Gary

HOLY S*#@!!! That was "different"!!! Not for the squeamish, definitely not what I expected. Can't say good or bad, just different and a big shock factor. Yeah.

Well, that was one tasty morsel.
Now I'm glad that I did not eat my parents. I never knew that it causes something similar to mad cow disease.

WTF did I just watch? So wrong on so many levels. Slow, agonizingly slow. The suspense lacked follow through, the actors lacked emotion, the scenes were poorly timed....I could go on and on...but I won't :-)

I know right? So bad... That organizer... I tell ya! ;) I get so many complaints about when I open the RSVP's. I can't make everyone happy. It's for 50 people so I'm sure you'll have a very good chance! :)

Folks, be aware this is a HORROR film. I don't know to what degree, but just want to put it our there. Watch the trailer and make your best guesstimate. :)
