Hike Details
Meeting Place: Botton Level of the Gateway Parking Deck Entrance
Meeting Time: 8:00
Hike Distance: Approx 7.5 miles.
Hike Difficulty: I would rate it as strong moderate.
Kids and Dogs?
Only if well behaved.
This is part of the Beacon Rock State Park and Washington State now requires a $10 parking pass. Washington State Discover Passes are only $30 if you plan to hike/visit a few places in the next year. The NW Forest Pass is NOT valid at state parks!
Please bring plenty of water! If you have injuries or can't maintain a decent pace, please do not sign up for this hike. I don't plan to go fast, but it is too long of a hike to constantly be playing 'stop and go' outside of what would be considered the norm.
Right out of the Portland Hiker’s Field Guide : “This trail has a feast of features for hikers, including waterfalls, craggy cliffs, deep forests, superb vistas, and a nice loop option for the trek.“ There is a longer description of the hike at that webpage, but ignore the part about no parking fee.
We will probably do just the trail up to Hamilton Mountain, then follow it down to the Hardy Creek Trail. Here is a link to a map.
It was a great hike. What a beautiful area. Could not think of a better way to spend a Sunday. Thank you Dave.

There is nothing that could have made this Sunday morning hike better--except chocolate stashed in my daypack or provided by another hiking buddy. Fantastic hike!

I like to drive and I just bought the annual Wash State Discover pass--expecting more great hikes on the Washington side during the year. See y'all bright and early Sunday morning.

It is about a 70 mile drive round trip drive to the trailhead, so if you carpool please contribute gas money to the driver. I would suggest $10, but it's between you and the drivers. And if you have a Washington State Discover pass, I do hope you will offer rides to others.
