The Doris Diaries:a reading event

The Doris Diaries are a lifetime’s worth of diaries kept by Doris Louise Bailey (later Murphy), a Portland, Oregon, native (1910-2011). Doris began keeping a daily record of her life as a 15-year-old in Portland in 1925. She attends dances, parties and rides horses (1920s); in later diaries, she attends college (1930s), moves to San Francisco and works in the War effort (1938-45). Her meticulous and artistic depictions of everyday life as well as flights of fancy capture the imagination.

Stumptown storytelling at its finest. Join Julia Park Tracey she reads from this collection. There will be raffles, a specialty cocktail called The Rebel Girl, a book signing, and a speakeasy feel to the evening. Dress accordingly!

The venue will provide reserved tables with seating for 20-30 depending on rsvps in front for our meetup group for those that want to sit together and mix/mingle. Seats will be first come, first served within the group. Some people will be more comfortable sitting a a separate table or in the couch area and should feel fine about doing so. This is a casual group. Please sit where you feel most comfortable and enjoy yourself. Look for Don Van Kirk, "Uncle Don" when you arrive. He'll be near the doors when enter the basement and will direct you to other meetups members and get you situated.

What to expect about the crowd: Mostly 30 somethings and up. A fun group of Portlanders out to learn something new while having a drink in a basement bar. Doors open at 6p.m. Reading starts at 7:30 Happy hour 4-7
