With all the recent rain, you know these waterfalls are going to be awesome! First stop is Wahclella Falls (top photo). That trail is two miles, round trip. Next we go to Elowah Falls (and possibly a short pit stop at the Bonneville Dam). The bottom photo is when it is but a trickle, it should be much more impressive now. We also plan to go to Upper McCord Creek Falls which is on the same trail as Elowah Falls.
Total hike distance for all three will be around 5 miles, split between two trail heads.
Rough plan - Meet at the Gateway Transit Center @ 8:30. Leave Portland and drive 84E to exit 40. Turn right to Wahclella Falls ($5 fee, unless you have a NW Forest Pass). It's a one mile hike out and back.
Afterwards possibly drive to the other side of the highway for the Bonneville Dam Visitor Center (free). If you are a nerd or just like fish, it can be kind of cool. We can either do this, or hit the hatchery instead and see Herman, the 450 pound Sturgeon. Both places are free and have restrooms. Or we can skip them both, depending on what the group wants to do.
Go back to 84W and drive to the very next exit, turn left under the highway and turn left on the service road to the next trailhead for Elowah and Upper McCord Creek Falls.
If you carpool please give gas money to the drivers.
