“Red Hills Ramble” Hike

NOTE:  In addition to your RSVP with Meetup.com you must sign up to reserve a spot by contacting John Laney at (850)[masked] or [masked]

Who doesn’t like to “ramble” along a beautiful county road! Join us for our first 8-mile ramble on the entire length of Old Centerville Road from Centerville Road to the Florida/George state line. It’s an easy hike on a canopied road--half on paved road and half on hard packed clay. The Red Hills has been identified for special conservation efforts and the Nature Conservancy has designated the Red Hills as one of America's "Last Great Places." Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Bring enough water and trail snacks for several hours. Meet at 9 a.m. at Bradley's Retreat, 9002 Bradley Road. Take Centerville Road north to Bradley's Country Store, then left on Bradley Rd. to the parking lot of Bradley's Retreat (approximately 5.7 miles beyond Bradfordville / Roberts Roads).

We're meeting at The Retreat at Bradley's Pond, 9002 Bradley Road, Tallahassee, FL.  (check Google maps for an areal view of the location).

We will shuttle cars to the state line as this is an eight mile walk in one direction, north.  We'll use the shuttled cars to come back to where we started.  This is intended to be a leisurely Sunday morning walk, not a forced march.  However, as with any group there are those who walk faster than others so I'm sure there will be several smaller group breakouts with some ahead and other behind.  The road is wide and the terrain smooth so we should be walking about three miles per hour (standard walk rate on smooth flat terrain), which would have us complete the walk in 2.5 and 3 hours.  If we start actually walking around 9:30 a.m. we should end around 12:30 p.m.  The plan is to go to Bradley's country store and have a Bradley's sausage dogs for lunch.   Be sure to bring water for the walk.
