iPhone and Smartphone Developers and Publishers May Meetup

  • May 5, 2009 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is no longer available

Purpose: To bring together developers and publishers of Iphone/smartphone services

Developers: this event will help you showcase your ideas, find interesting work and swap notes with other developers.

Content publishers: this event will introduce you to the programmers who can make your content come alive on the iPhone and other smartphone devices.

It’s hoped that both content and tech folk will gain a fuller understanding of each other’s needs. Our first few meetings will be in small and informal settings, so much the better to have the one-to-one chats that lead to paid work and finished products all round!

Invited to attend:
- Content publishers – print and online (book publishers, newspaper and magazines publishers, games, web publishers etc)

- Software developers – individuals or agencies

- Phone manufacturers and operators

- Angel investors and VCs

- Associated professional services e.g. SEO and advertising

- Anyone with a commercial or organizational interest in the iPhone and other smartphones

Entrance is free, in the best traditions of and boot-strapping start-ups!

Jason Dunne and Craig Smith have worked in UK print media since the early 90s. Jason is formerly the publisher of the “…For Dummies” series of how-to books; Craig is a business development executive at O’Reilly Books and author of the O’Reilly GMT blog.

May 5th meeting:

Hi everyone

I'm absolutely delighted to announce that Konstantinos Eleftheriou, one third of the development team behind the incredibly succesful iSteam app, will join us for tomorrow night's meetup.

If you haven't heard of iSteam then you should see what the New York Times has to say about it. Konstantinos will present to the group about his experience of going from nothing to selling >$100k of product in just under six months.

As mentioned before, we'll also be joined via Skype by Dave Castelnuovo, creator of the runaway hit Pocket God. If you've any questions you'd like to put to Dave, send them to me before we start tomorrow. I'm sure Konstantinos will also be glad to answer your q's.

Running order:

6.30pm: doors open
6.50pm: welcome and (very) short presentation from me
7.00pm: Konstantinos and the story of iSteam
---Drinks and mingling-----
830pm: Dave Castelnuovo joins us from San Francisco via Skype
900pm: Drinks and mingling 'till the minglin's done.

A very well organized, friendly and informative evening. I'm new to Apps and it was great to meet people involved in the industry. As an Author I wanted to meet developers and luckily I knew Jason who introduced me to the right people. Without Jason this may have been a little slower and harder to do and perhaps the suggestion of colour coded stickers would be a way to deal with this problem. I know its an embarrassing solution but it really would help. Its cheap, quick and easy to do. Thanks

Good event. Would suggest you consider instituting First Tuesday style stickers - red for publishers, green for developers, blue for service providers/advisors. Provides a way of breaking the ice and encourages people to talk to each other.

Interesting discussions with other developers and publishers, and also some very interesting talks from the guys behind iSteam and the guys behind Pocket God. Well worth attending!

Great to hear different perspectives from the makers of iSteam. The video Skype interview and Q&A with Dave aka Pocket God was outstanding and I was impressed with the thought out questions that had been prepared.

Small delay in starting. And I think I'll eat before the next one as the Kitchen was well closed by the time the evening wound up for me, but that's my own fault for talking to much & meeting some like minds :-)

Fascinating presentations/speakers, great attendees. Well above average quality for a meetup event. Seriously useful for anyone wishing to develop their own iPhone apps, techies or otherwise.
