AT Series: High Point SP (NJ 23) to Unionville (NJ 284)

Join us on a 10-mile section hike along the Appalachian Trail and the northern Kittatinny ridge climbing to New Jersey's greatest elevation above sea level - High Point. Enjoy spectacular views of far-reaching vistas as well as trekking a steep side trail to the High Point Monument [if time allows]. The monument was built in honor of all war veterans and was completed in 1930. Bring over-the-ankle boots, non-cotton layers, lunch, water, snacks and camera. Meet at High Point SP office, 1480 Route 23, Sussex at 9am SHARP to shuttle cars to trail head. Refer to AT NJ Section 3 map. Group size limited.

Please note that this is a 'section hike' and not a loop.  Therefore, all participants must be willing to shuttle cars and transport drivers back to their cars at the end of the hike.

This is an all-day activity and we will enjoy our day outdoors by taking time to gaze and photograph; don't expect to be off the trail before 4pm.  Additional time will be needed to complete shuttling drivers.  If you have a pressing appointment, this activity may not be a suitable choice.

Jake is limping some, but the vet thinks they got all the quills. A couple were very deep. He is medicated, so he is dopey, but he ate his breakfast. We'll keep him quiet today and soon he will be back to normal! Hope you have a great hike today!

Jake is fine. He went home last night; was to the vets for three hours or so.

Thank you all for sharing an awesome day outdoors. The weather was perfect and the trail provided some really beautiful vistas -- especially gazing at the High Point Monument. Wow! The after-hike food fest was phenomenal. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Since this is over two hours drive from for me, I would be happy to carpool (drive or ride.) Looking forward to this hike, I've never been in this park.

Where are you driving from? I am in Southern NJ.

I am driving from Hamilton NJ. I could give you a ride to High Point, but I decided to stay over night for the Sunday hike, so you would need to have someone to drive you back that night.
