Exploring Storm King Mountain and Art Center

Join us for a full-day adventure on the west bank of the Hudson River - just south of Cornwall-on-Hudson hiking to the summit of Storm King Mountain. Admire this beautiful place across the river from Breakneck Ridge - this striking area is considered part of the northern gateway to the Hudson Highlands. Our 4-mile trek will be steep and our rewards will include superb views of the Hudson River and surrounding countryside.

Immediately following our hike, we will have a short lunch break and then visit the Storm King Art Center, a unique 500-acre sculpture park.

Enjoy a leisurely afternoon wandering the beautifully landscaped rolling hills filled with more than 100 carefully sited sculptures. Admission $12/pp [$10/pp 65+]; you will purchase your own tickets upon arrival.  You can wander through the exhibits on foot or take the tram.  Photo on right features 'The Wall' created by artist Andy Goldsworthy.

Meet promptly at the trail-head at 9:15 sharp! Be prepared with sturdy footwear, lunch, snacks, water, change of shoes and camera; please carpool.

Please note we will meet at a different trail-head on Route 9W - details to follow.

Contact L for specific directions to trail-head. Optional after-hike dinner at local eatery.

Terry - Thank you for another wonderful day. One of these days I'll find where you've hidden your direct line to the weather gods, because once again you've snatched perfect weather when no one would have bet on it - certainly not after FRI's deluge! The views from the mountain of the Hudson were gorgious! 'Bought back all sorts of memories. The art center was a treat, as was dinner and the company. And the cicada ... Thanks 10^6!

Thanks, Terry for planning another adventurous day. The hike was scenic and challenging, the art center aesthetically stimulating, and the dinner was a culinary delight.

If you have room in your car, there is a good [and quick] hop off of Route 287 at the A&P in Boonton. We have dropped cars there in the past on our way up north. Anyone willing to stop and add a participant, please post. Thanks!

Kathy - If we come up from central Jersey and head for 287, Flemington is backtracking. How about meeting in Somerville?

Kath - I don't think there are any coming from the Philly area but there are a couple from central Jersey - Princeton area. Maybe that would work?
