Please join us for a 15-16 mile shuttle hike on the scenic Conestoga Trail in Lancaster, PA. This hike has beautiful views, scenic creek, a freaky cave system, abandon houses, diverse plant life, an old lock system, and beautiful views of Susquehanna River from Norman Wood Bridge. We will start at Martic Forge and pass through Pequea Creek, Martic Forge Covered Bridge, Wind Cave, House Rock Vista, Tucquan Creek, Susquehanna River, Holtwood Pinnacle Overlook, Kelly's Run, Norman Wood Bridge, and Lock 12 Historic Site. There will be an option to take a dip/swim at Tucquan Creek. This will be a very strenuous hike with constant ups and downs on the hills with 3000+ feet of total elevation gain. Expect a full day with 8+ hours on the trail. I cannot provide a specific ending time. Please bring water (at least 2 quarts), sturdy shoes, lunch, snacks, lots of calories, and extra pairs of socks. Registration absolutely required. Meet at 9.15 am at Lock 12 Historic Area (GPS:[masked], [masked]) at the intersection of PA-372 and McCalls Ferry Road (or River Road). Please be willing to participate in the shuttle as needed. No pets. Optional post-hike dinner. My sincere thanks to Elisabeth and Ric for scouting this hike with me. Please note that this hike is about 16 miles long. We will be going up and down the hills all day long with total up elevation of about 3000 feet. Since we will stop at several places, we will be moving at a decent speed when we are not stopped. The hike is not at all technical but it is strenuous. There will also be an option to take dip/swim at Tucquan Creek. I will move back & forth during the hike and I will ask couple of strong hikers with familiarity of the trail (mostly Elisabeth & Ric) to be in the front.
You should bring at least 2 quarts (64 oz) of water.
Lunch, snacks, and plenty of calories.
Extra pairs of socks
Light rain jacket – just in case
Please arrange for carpool in the comment section of this page. Please note that it is important that everyone is willing to participate in the shuttle as needed. If you do sign up for this hike, then please keep your commitment. This should be a very scenic and beautiful late Spring hike and a terrific workout. Really Looking forward to it!
