Join us for one of my personal favorites - an invigorating 8+ mile hike along the Bearfort Ridge in Abram S. Hewitt SF. Total elevation gain is approximately 1200' with many up and downs, minor rock scrambling and wet areas. Examine a large section of rock that has split away from the ridge top; hike on top of a beautiful sandstone/pudding stone ridge offering spectacular views of Greenwood Lake and neighboring countryside; linger for awhile at secluded Surprise Lake and take a short side trail to gaze at West Pond to appreciate its back country charm. This will be an all-day activity. Pace and time will be allotted for photographers and outdoor enthusiasts to stop and admire the surroundings. Wear sturdy over-the-ankle footwear, bring lunch/snacks, water; heavy rain cancels. No dogs permitted. Meet at 8:15 SHARP -- A&P/Sears Shopping Center, Union Valley Road, Hewitt in order to shuttle to the trail head. Optional after-hike refreshments at local eatery.
Trip Rating hike's terrain is:
C = hiking trails and
D = steep hills, scrambles. May have to do some butt-sliding and scrambling - dress accordingly.
