Hiking Norvin Green State Park - Osio Rock, Stone Living Room plus more

Join us for an 8-mile hike featuring two lovely loops in the beautiful NJ Highlands. We begin with a steep, rocky climb up Torne Mountain to Osio Rock to catch great views including a must stop at the mysterious and controversial 'Stone Living Room'. Our second loop will bring us to Otter Hole and a climb up the Highlands Trail to the Carris Hill Trail which affords stunning views of the Wanaque Reservoir. We will stop to admire Chikahoki Falls on our return route. If weather and time permits, we can add additional mileage and trek up to Wyanokie High Point. Bring sturdy boots, water, lunch, snacks; no dogs allowed. There are several water crossings.  Consider this an all-day activity so we can spend extra time to admire the views and be outdoors. Meet at the Otter Hole parking lot on Glenwild Avenue at 9:00am SHARP; it is a small lot so please carpool.

Thank you all for another full day outdoors. WOW! So glad the weather held up and we were able to finish the entire hike. You guys were great - really nice group. Vince you were a great sweep and we all know that was a tall order with Steve not present. You did a great job! Nina [feather], Hilda and Hannelore - great leads and thank goodness we found the stone living room. A full day outdoors and dinner with a bunch of hiker buddies -- who could ask for more? Hope to see you on the trail real soon. Looking forward to many future adventures.

You will not be able to complete the entire hike by 1:00. You will get the first loop done and perhaps some of the second loop. You can sign-off the hike and trek back to your car at 1:00. I'll bring extra maps although it is a well-marked trail.

Hey Terry. I was looking at the map link provided, and I don't see a parking lot there. Is the lot we're meeting at the one at GPS coordinates 41.045777,-74.350437 ??

Directions: Take I-287 to Exit 53 (Bloomingdale) and turn left onto Hamburg Turnpike. Upon entering Bloomingdale, the name of the road changes to Main Street. In 1.3 miles (from Route 287) you will reach a fork in the road. Bear right, and in another 0.1 mile turn right (uphill) onto Glenwild Avenue (following the sign to West Milford). Continue ahead for 3.2 miles to a parking area on the right side of the road. Otter Hole parking area/Norvin Green State Park

      GPS: 41.045837, -74.350383

Craig - there are 2 small parking lots on Glenwild Avenue by Otter Hole. Our GPS coordinates are very close - I believe you will have no trouble. Bring my phone number just in case. [masked]. If you have the NJ Trail conference map, the parking lots are noted.
