Mauch Chunk Lake, Mt. Pisgah, and Jim Thorpe Hike (3C12)

Please join us for a 12 mile hike in Jim Thorpe/Mauch Chunk Lake area. We will hike up to Mt. Pisgah, descend to the town of Jim Thorpe for some ice cream, and then return via Mauch Chunk Lake. I have not scheduled this hike in a couple of years! Meet at 10.30 am at Mauch Chunk Lake Park Office at 625 Lentz Trail, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229 (GPS:[masked], [masked]). Bring, water, snacks/lunch and a light fleece. This is an all day event. Optional post-hike dinner stop in the town of Jim Thorpe. Sorry, pets not allowed on this one.

This is about 1 1/2 hour drive from King of Prussia. You might want to carpool. Please arrange it on the Meetup Page.

People, thank you so very much for joining the Jim Thorpe hike. Weather could not have been more perfect with not a cloud in the sky, and low humidity! Once in a while changing the day works out! We had an amazing group of 23 people. We did about 12 miles and I did not keep track of speed or elevation, but shall we say it was a leisurely and real laid-back day? The coalmine tunnel was once again the highlight of the day, and a lot more people went all the way in this time! The views from Mt. Pisgah were superb on a clear day. We could even see Glen Onoko from there! In the town, I loved the coconut ice cream! Our stop at Mauch Chunk Lake on the way back was also very relaxing. Craig and Paula, thank you for sweeping. Thanks to everyone for posting great pictures. We had six people at Broadway Grille – terrific conversation, food and beers. My apologies to those who cold not make it due to rescheduling on Mother’s Day. I will do this hike again. See you all on a future hike. - Bijal

Great hike, great weather, and especially a great group of people. Hope to see some of you on future hikes. And thanks, Bijal! Sorry about missing dinner...I picked up a nail in my tire on the way back into Jim Thorpe that took a little bit of time to repair.

People, as of now the weather looks amazing for tomorrow’s hike. It should be sunny with temperatures close to 80 degrees and absolutely no precipitation! Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Those of you who could not join us, have a terrific Mother’s Day! - Bijal

I'm looking forward to this but for because of family obligations I won't be able to leave Philly until about 830. Is there a phone # I can call in case I arrive after 10?

People, I hate to do this at the last minute, but I am moving this hike to Sunday. The weather forecast has not improved at all for this Saturday. There is a 60/70% chance of rain including winds and thunderstorms. Jim Thorpe hike is much more fun and enjoyable on a sunny spring day. Sunday, is expected to be sunny and pleasant with a high of close to 80 degrees. Sunday is also Mother’s Day. It would be totally understandable if you need to update your RSVP due to this change. Please do it soon. For those of you staying with us for Sunday, there should be excellent cell phone coverage in the town of Jim Thorpe for you to call Mom and profusely apologize (and be yelled at)! Hope this helps with planning for your weekend. Once again, sorry for the last-minute weather related change and hope to see you on Sunday. - Bijal

I would love to come, but don't have a car. I live in Philly and can get to anywhere via Philly public transport, including King of Prussia. Could anyone give me a ride? Thanks.
