NOTE: The location of this hike has changed because the trails at Jenny Jump are closed.
This hike will also be split into two groups.
This hike will take us to two of the most popular destinations in the Delaware Water Gap area. The 7 mile overall distance of this hike will allow us to take our time while hiking and at Sunfish Pond and Raccoon Ridge. While this hike is not meant to be hard, it does start with a significant steep climb! Elevation gain in the first mile is 1050 feet! We will be taking the quickest way to Sunfish Pond via the Douglas Trail and the Sunfish drainage. This route is steep and has rocky off trail conditions. After spending some time at the pond, we will hike 2 miles north on the Appalachian Trail to take in the spectacular view at Raccoon Ridge. We will take an extended break to enjoy the surroundings and the view. Our return will be on the Appalachian Trail and going back down on the Garvey Springs Trail. The Garvey Springs Trail takes us back to the parking lot.
Note that we are meeting at the Douglass Trail parking lot on Old Mine Road. This parking lot is 3.9 miles up Old Mine Road from the traffic light just off route 80.
Rain cancels. Wet conditions may alter our route. The AMC hike rating is: 2D7 (Moderate pace, Steep hill in the first mile, 7 miles) Participants are encouraged to join us for an optional post hike dinner. Due to the rocky conditions, a good pair of hiking boots are strongly recommended. Please bring at least 1 quart of water. More is better. Also bring a lunch and snacks. I expect this to be an all day hike that will last until the 3-4 PM time frame.
AMC rating is 2C7.
2= Moderate pace

If the hike is to be postponed due to inclement weather, notice will be given by 9 PM the night before the hike. Check Meetup for the latest. Rain cancels.
