Pochuck Boardwalk & Stairway to Heaven - Wawayanda Mountain

Work off that Thanksgiving feast and join us for a 7+ mile trek along an interesting, diverse and beautiful section of the Appalachian Trail. Our hike will begin on the impressive mile-long Pochuck Boardwalk through marshy areas and over the 110-foot suspension bridge; climb over stiles into cow pastures and walk through very muddy meadows chock full of puncheons. Climb the Stairway to Heaven - 1000' elevation gain over a steep and rock slab step trail switchbacking up Wawayanda Mountain. A short side trail to Pinwheel Vista will present a spectacular view of the Kittatinny Mountains, farms in the valley below and on a clear day the High Point Monument is visible. Bring water/snacks/lunch; wear over-the-ankle boots and ORANGE since it is hunting season. Parking is along the road and limited - please carpool. Meet at 8:30 SHARP on Rte 517 just before Carol Drive, Glenwood.

Please note:  Currently this trail is closed.  However, the park ranger was pretty confident it will be open by the 24th - thus, there is a possibility the location may be changed.  Stay tuned.

Thank you Terry, for a fine hike. The blustery weather did not dampen the spirits of
our fellow hikers and we had an enjoyable day.

Thank you for sharing a great day outdoors. The wind and snow kept us moving -- who knew we would finish so early? Thanks to Steve for always taking the sweep and for his great group photos. Hope to see you all again real soon!

Terry, Per your last communication, I assume we will have a large group. Approximately what time do you expect to complete the hike? Are there any shortcuts to the parking area? I hope to complete by 4. Thanks

Tom - Yes it will be a large group and there will be several folk who will stop to take photos; thus slowing down the pace. Since the hike is an in and out, you can very easily sign off and head back to your car after we come down from Wawayanda. ..although I would think we should be done close to 4pm given we are starting at 8:30. There may be others that will not be participating in the after-hike stop who will join you. Hope this helps!
