Making WordPress faster

David Kryzaniak will be talking about "Making WordPress faster".  He gave this talk last year at WordCamp Milwaukke 2013.  Here is the info from that wordcamp.

" Why is My Site So Freakin’ Slow!?

We’re going to look at some commonplace mistakes that slow your WordPress site. We’ll start with plugins that can speed up your sites, and we’ll talk about the plugins that slow it down. We’ll also discuss fine tuning your server for blazing speed. Items like gzipping, nginx, and reverse proxies like CloudFlare."

Hope to see you there!

Extremely useful and actionable info - one of the best presentations to date (including MINE ... that's sayin' something!). :-p

    Thanks so much David!

Darn, I'm on vacation. I'd really like to get the notes on this one though!

I should point out, this is going to be quite different from my talk at WordCamp Milwaukee last year. The plan is to briskly walk through some slides about why WP gets so slow and best practices to make it fast. Then, we are going to take a clean install of WP and make it really (REALLY!) slow. Once that baby is slower than molasses in January, we're going to strap some rockets on the site! We'll be using Google's newer "PageSpeed Insights" (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/) to track how fast/slow the site really is.

Additionally, we'll be talking about common caching pitfalls like e-commerce plugin with caching and 3rd party services like CloudFlare.

Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see covered!

Dreamhost doesn't have a great reputation in relation to Wordpress hosting - quick google search shows a long history of problems.

I saw that too. Unfortunately I already had hosting through Dreamhost for several other sites. I'll most likely switch at some point in the future, but for now it works for my playing around. Thanks for the heads up though.

Looking forward to talking with everyone. I'm pretty dare sure that I will be for sure making it over for this one.
