It's Red White and Blue and your kayak too!!! Neenah Harbor

It's the July 4th, Venetian boat parade In the Neenah harbor. We did this last year as a small group. The Neenah Park Dept who puts this on. asked if we could do this again this year. So dig out your flags, battery operated lights, and anything else that will work to make your kayak look festive for this parade. We'll meet in the parking lot at 7:00 P.M. to decorate our boats. Be in the water about 8:00 P.M. to paddle the harbor for about an hour and half. Then check out the fireworks from your kayak.

Hi All, I have news on the winner for the $100 I did some checking being it was taking so long to hear who the winner was. No one from our group won, :( The person that did win was in a canoe with his son. I think he had only a large flag on the end of his canoe. I also was told that he is a member of the boat club that put this event on. I won't say any more on that subjet... and sorry bonnie, No cook-out this year. We did have a fun time,,, maybe next year we'll win!!!

Hi All, Yes Cindy, Tim that is a good question. As of now I have not heard of anyone winning the $100 as of yet. As soon as I hear who won I will get the word out,,, I hope soon.

My wife and are hoping to make it out but have two questions. Are angling / rec kayaks appropriate and any suggestions on lighting for night trips? Pretty new and would appreciate any and all suggestions - thanks!

If the water is calm, those boats should be fine. Especially if you are familiar with them and how they handle. You can mount a small lantern of flashlight on your boat, or you can also use a headlamp. The more visible, the better of course, especially since there will be quite a bit of boat traffic for the fireworks. And of course if you wanted to decorate your boat a bit extra for the decoration competition, you could always throw on some of those portable battery operated Christmas or rope lights, or hang glow sticks from yourself or something. :) Have fun!

May have missed this comment, but can you rent a kayak there? If not does any body have an extra kayak they would be willing to let me use if I can get off this Friday?

Annie, no rentals, I do have an extra kayak, do you any way to put in on your car?

GOOD NEWS!!! I just found out that the Neenah Boat Club is having a contest for the best decorated boat. They will give out $100.00 for the best boat. This years theme is Americana. Good luck, and let's show those power boats that kayaks are better!!!

    June 22, 2014

    • Tim S.

I can do so if she lives in Neenah or Menasha. Just let me know or will have to get No. to make sure on Fri.

      June 25, 2014

    • Abigail P.

Just an F.Y.I. everyone will need to have some type of light on their kayak. It's for your own saftey in the harbor with the power boats.
