The "Stitched World Project" is the design of a MMORPG - a massively multiplayer online role playing game. The goal is to see if you can architect a solution that scales linearly and easily. It requires both the underlying hardware and how the software works. At the end of the meeting, after all the presentations, I will give you a paper I wrote (and presented) that shows my design. The premise of the game is that there are two kinds of participants - owners and players. Owners own a piece of property, and players are participants that go from "property" to "property" playing under the rules set by the owner of that property. Owner's property is called a "micro world". A micro-world is under complete control of the owner. He/she can decide on physical attributes of their world, for example gravity, placement of obstacles, location of roads, rivers, etc. They can also describe interactions between players in the world, rewards for finding 'things', etc. The 'micro worlds' are stitched together in a way to allow players to move from one micro-world to another. Assuming of course if they live! The purpose of a player is to collect points and rewards along the way. So your design should demonstrate how your design will scale. The design should allow you to support 2 players or 2 billion! You design needs to figure out how to allow micro-world owners a way to customize their worlds and still allow players to easily move from micro-world to mico-world. To have a successful design you must show how the hardware scales. You must demonstrate how the software operates (you don't need to be so detailed you show data fields) but you must demonstrate data-flow. At the end of the meeting I will demonstrate my design and give you a paper that describes the design. Any takers?
