I have been asked by several people to republish this (a few people got hurt last week)
Argentine Tango Rules for a crowded dance floor 1. Follow line of dance. Line of dance is counter-clockwise around the floor. 2. Get comfortable with dancing small. 3. Keep backward steps to an absolute minimum. 4. Dance to the outside of the floor (remember what they call people who dance in the center of the room – Flower pots). 5. Keep moving with the flow of the room. Remember, if you stop you block everyone behind you. 6. Do not pass. Think of a very crowded floor as a double yellow line on the road. If a car is stopped on the side of the road or broken down, you will CAREFULLY navigate around it. Otherwise just stay in your lane. 7. Both feet on the ground AT ALL TIMES!!!. NO ganchos, high boleos, etc. Save the Nuevo for less crowded spaces. Low wraps and small decorations are possible. 8. Enjoy the experience of dancing with a whole roomful of people; in a sense they are all your partners. 9. Remember that the very crowded milonga is a true test of skill. Anyone can make ganchos interesting. It takes a skilled dancer to make a tiny ocho cortada fascinating. |
