My Dance Background :
Gérard Derminasyan has been involved in the study and pursuit of dance since the age of eighteen. He trained in classical dance technique, dance sport, flamenco and tango. He continues to pursue the classical dance form to transmit information on posture, alignment, anatomy, balance and technique in movement to apply to other dance forms. He currently dedicates himself completely to argentine tango.
Since 2002, Gérard dedicates himself exclusively to argentine tango especially its classic form of tango salon . In 2006 and 2007 he trained with some renowned tango teachers in Buenos Aires including Fabian Peralta, Fernando Galera , Julio and Corina Balmaceda, Carolina Bonaventura , Christina Cortez, Osvaldo Zotto, Daniel Lapadula , Gustavo Naivera , Andres Laza Moreno and others. On stage Gerard has performed in different productions including Carmen (Opera de Montreal , Opera Lyra Ottawa), Un Dia Flamenco (National Arts Centre) , Abrazos (National Arts Centre), Alice in Wonderland (Les Petits Ballets ) , and recently in Buenos Aires with Ballet Mariposita (Tango) under the direction of Carolina Bonaventura and Francisco Forquera. In his teaching, Gerard emphasizes the walk and the connection in close embrace as the most important elements of Tango Salon. He gradually builds tango vocabulary as students learn communication, elegance, emotional connection and improvisational skills. He emphasizes technique to build, precision, smoothness and musicality. As much as performing, teaching is his true passion where he loves to transmit his knowledge on posture, alignment, technique of movement, and emotion using a holistic approach to dance.
