Helloooo Fellow Gardeners!

Saturday was a great work day in the garden. A little chilly at times, but there were plenty of smiles and busy hands!

THANKS FOR HELPING HANDS!

The split-rail fence has been installed and painted - THANKS DIANE!!!!! It really looks nice!!! We will plant the blackberry bushes along the fence and some heritage climbing roses with a flower garden along the front side to attract bees and insects to our garden to help with pollenation.

Thanks to Luan the little seedlings were protected from the cold front that worked its way through the area. He made a temporary cold frame that kept the little plants and seeds warm. Next on the list, Peggy and Luan covered some of the more tender plants to be sure they made it through the past couple of days. Let's hope the cold is gone... but I suspect we'll have a few more blasts from the north!

Sofya transplanted some baby choi into a new bed amended with Mulch Masters #3 mix. We've had problems with the back beds so this year we will amend them with the #3 mix, vermiculite and peat. Coconut coir would be a better choice than peat since the coir is natural with far less environmental impact. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find the coir locally. Thanks Sofya, husband and little Yuri for the extra hands Saturday!

We now have three table top beds thanks to George!!! So if bending to reach regular beds is a problem for our gardners, the table top beds offer an alternative gardening venue!

And, of course, thank you Tom & Margit for all your hard work and efforts. Really....members should stop by the garden and take a look. You should see us now!! An irrigation system that will save us this summer, nice raised beds and more improvements in the works!

Thanks to everyone. Our garden is truly a community effort!

NEXT WEEK!

Don't forget to RSVP for next week. We have a nice variety of lettuces to make a wonderful salad to share. Some of the 'Feldstat' varieties are new to many of our gardeners. Come lend a hand with the seed project and stay for a taste test.

CHECK OUT ....

If you haven't visited Terrior Seeds, give them a once over. They have a great selection of heirloom, organic and hybrid seeds. Not sure of the difference? Check out their site for an explanation.
