Join The Stewardship Day!!

Saturday, April 6, 2013

Who:  AAC and AMC Members

Meeting Location: 8:00am at the Tom’s Thumb Trail Head

Directions to Tom’s Thumb Trail Head:

From anywhere in the Valley, drive to Scottsdale and the 101/Pima intersection. Head north on Pima to Happy Valley Road. Drive east on Happy Valley through Troon. As Happy Valley turns north and becomes 118th Street, look for Ranch Gate Road and continue east/right. Turn south/right on 128th Street to Trail Head. We’ll meet a Trail head building.

 Work Information:

We will be cleaning up the Climber Access Route from roughly the Fort McDowell Crag up to the Lost Wall turn-off. We will be installing climber signage for Half and Half Wall and Lost Wall.

Our work session should be concluded by 11:00 a.m. or so.

After the work session we’ll set up top rope climbs at Fort McDowell in the 5.7 to 5.9 range. There will be plenty to work your hearts out on!

Our current plan is to start breaking climbs down around 2 to 3pm.

What to bring:

Tools will be provided. Bring suitable clothing and work gloves for trail work.

It is suggested that you bring helmet, harness, climbing shoes, food, water, and all your normal day hiking stuff.  Sunscreen and extra water is a must.

Be prepared for anything – hot, dry, wet, or windy.  If it looks like rain is possible, bring a rain shell.

Greasewood Flats

After the climbing, please plan to join in a continuation of the festivities after the climb at Greasewood Flats. Maps showing directions to Greasewood Flats will be provided to participants. The AAC will host the event by providing one drink coupon per person capped at $5.75/drink.
