Very good. The Backup Buddy presentation was interesting. The presentation on Gravity Forms was well-done. The information about Google's UTM was fabulous!

Has anyone made CSS changes to a studiopress child theme? Can I go directly to the stylesheet (style.css) and change code or do I need to obtain something from studiopress to change code? Thanks for your help :-)

    July 17, 2013

    • Seth C.

Lots of ways, the easiest is the third code snippet inside of the existing style.css file. Note that when you upgrade, it can wipe the whole child-theme folder. Another good reason to make a backup before upgrading anything.

Another option, as much as it pains me to tell you, is that the JetPack plugin (that I loath) has a custom CSS section... where you could safely put css that will load on your site. Hopefully there are other plugins that load CSS for you because I could never recommend you install JetPack (explanation too long to explain here).

oh another option would be to upload your stylesheet to the wp-content/uploads folder. Then when you update your theme no worries of overwriting your custom styles, and you just change the stylesheet import url to be the full URL path to the stylesheet in your uploads folder.

so you bought the Yalin theme? Most themes come with documentation and a DEMO XML file that you can import. The file and documentation should show you how to setup the site to look exactly like the demo, then you can start modifying everything once the demo is setup on your domain. We do answer questions at the meetup, but questions like this are best asked before or after the meeting as somebody would likely need to go deeper then a 60 second answer.

Given enough time I should come up with one... actually I do have one. In the media library is there a way to keep all the images categorized? I am graphic designer and photographer so I put lots of images on my Wordpress site. On top of that when I start putting lots of my images on the blog a couple times a week the amount of images becomes overwhelming and to sort through.

I have figure out a way of putting many images into one layout using InDesign and then turning those into one image but even then it gets overwhelming. I also have designed photo buttons that link from some of my images.

My website is not quite done but you can view it here: http://www.effectivemds.com

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, John Tarr

I agree with Seth on the use of NextGEN Gallery. I have been using it for over two years on several of my websites without any issues.

Speaking of the media library, when uploading photos WP automatically changes the file name and creates a new file if the file you are uploading has the same file name as one previously uploaded. Essentially, it creates a new file rather than overwriting the existing file. Is there a way to overwrite the previous file rather than creating a new one?

You all have been rather quiet this time around... no questions or debates? How about I set one up. I'm looking for a good FAQ plugin for wordpress. I want to display the FAQ we have prepared from all your questions... but I need a good plugin for it. Any recommendations? If you have one, make sure you explain why you recommend it (and you better have reviewed it on WordPress.org!!!!)
