CHANDLER - Arizona WordPress Group

The June meetup will continue the construction of our WordPress meetup site with two additional educational topics.

6:30 - Introductions

6:40 - HTML Recap for WordPress Developers -- Jeremy Scott

WP makes it easy to publish and prosper without the burden of becoming an expert in computer code languages.  But knowing whats going on under the hood gives you more power to tweak, template, and design yourself to the next level.  In 30 minutes, get a cliff-notes intro to the language that structures every site on the net, and begin distinguishing your sites from the competition.

7:30 - Tips and Tricks

7:40 - Creating a Dev Site in a Subdirectory - Chris Diamond

Working on a live production site is not the preferred method for WordPress development.  Chris Diamond will demonstrate how to migrate a live production site to a subdirectory development site so that major edits can be made in a staging area rather than through "cowboy coding" on a production site.

7:50 - Continue Site buildout

8:30 - Adjourn

We had two great presentations ... even when it's basic, you always learn something. These meetings are always worth attending for any serious WordPress person.

My 1st Meetup and I will be back. Overall I felt like this was a good use of my time. I am new to WordPress, but not to CMS, HTML or developing websites. Still, I learned a few things and I will try to attend next month. I would have hung around at the end, but have two websites under development, and need to be working on them. Thank you for this Meetup. Brad, Rinehart Enterprises.

Has anyone done a domain migration? I"m having issues with some of my links like social media buttons. They take you to an internal error page. So if I click on fb button it takes me to: website.com/facebookpage. I tried to find the coding in the editor but no luck or do I have to go in the back end and update a file? Any suggestions?

    June 12, 2013

    • Brad R.

Yes Joshua. And describe exactly which links you are having trouble with. I will try to look at this before the day is done.

Couldn't find the link that you were having issues with. Is it currently on the website ?

      June 13, 2013

  • John T.

    Where is the link located?

    June 13, 2013

    • Carol S.

We record it on Youtube and so you can view it there on the broadcast as weil as the hangout. Our youtube channel is http://www.youtube.co.... Bookmark this link for every time. Also, subscribe to the channel as well so that you always have the link.

Though... it wouldn't be a bad use of the Redirection plugin on the AZW site to fulfill this purpose. Then we can track views and stuff. ;)

Are you having a live stream of this tonight?

    June 13, 2013

  • Seth C.

I'll be attending by google hangout.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to make a landing page with-in a template or theme already being used?

    June 6, 2013

    • Joe M.

Many themes offer this on their own. Sometimes they are called a "no sidebars" template. Otherwise to create your own, check out this guide on the Codex: http://codex.wordpres...
