I am looking to do a 301 redirect for part of my website. Does anyone have experience doing this? If so, I'd love to chat! Also, I am contemplating selling a site. Has anyone sold a site before? I would love to chat! Thanks in advance for the help:-)! P.S. The last meetup was my first one, and it was so great! Looking forward to attending the next ones!

Yes, the plugin should work if you are more comfortable with that.

At the after Meetup at KO's we had a discussion on picking a server. (at least at our end of the table)
Jon Thomas was trying to determine what parameters were important.
Joe Fleming was very helpful in discussing what numbers we should be looking at in server choices.

I came across this pdf on the iThemes site which some may find helpful:
    http://ithemes.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2012/08/How-to-Pick-Web-Hosting-without-a-Computer-Science-Degree.pdf

It doesn't give any hard and fast rules but some general guidelines.
I think this may be a good future topic.

Picking and using hosting is a lot more about what to expect. The marketing material for most hosts is very misleading. I would be happy to present on hosting should the members decide it's something they want...I'll wait for 10 votes or likes on this thread.

I have a question about the visual editor. We started a new website with ver 3.6 and visual editor is not showing up. We have tried a number of different themes and same trouble. We only get text editor but no visual editor. Never had this problem before. Can anyone help?

    Thank you

Nothing we did would make it work so we dumped Wordpress and reloaded it up again and it worked...

Had great meetup last night. I wonder how I can add my service to the AZWordpress.org website? Would there be a fee? Also if you are interested in using Google+ for your Arizona based business, feel free to join us at Arizona Businesses community. https://plus.google.com/communities/115332908746082971350

We don't plan to just list any service, the requirement is simply that you serve the WordPress user community.... designer, developer, coach, consultant, etc. Right now... just email me, thats how you get your business listed.

Great speakers and topics - I learned a lot!

Very informative and really enjoy the people in our group; high energy and great conversation.

I thought having non-developers present was benefitial to the user group, shows you that you don't have to be an expert to get your website setup! Don't forget to watch the Axosoft Scrum video, you won't be dissapointed: http://youtu.be/XU0llRltyFM

Seth, I just wanted you to know that I reviewed the Backup Buddy plugin, which is an awesome plugin.
And I will keep doing reviews at your behest.

Now I need to find an email obfuscator plugin.

Thanks Brandy. Joe's presentation on Cloudflare helped my understanding greatly.

      +1 for plugin reviews!

As always it was a great meetup with a ton of useful info. Mindie, Jon and Joe's presentations were outstanding. And, we had sort of a round (rectangle) table discussion at KO's afterward.
The collective knowledge of everyone that attends is amazing.

I am out of my capacity. I am looking for talented theme designer an coder to work with on my next project.

Hi Terence -- I know that several participants as well as the group organizers provide WP theme design and development services. Perhaps you'll find the right fit at tonight's meetup, or at least have a better idea of what questions to ask to narrow your search.

What's the easiest way to take care of a WP site to show up correct/the same on all browsers. Thought my theme had that figured out but noticed someone using IE today didn't show correctly. Not sure what version it was. Any good plugins or CSS code to add?

Well, how jacked up it is I guess is relative. I just browserstacked it on ie 8 and 9. In ie9 it is better but some pages still have layout issues (instead of things floating they stack and other things like that). Ie10 for the most part looks good.

I may be attending training at Papago and if I am up in the area and not "fried" from the training, I'll be there. I think your location is close to Papago Military Academy?

    July 17, 2013

    • Seth C.

not sure you have the correct group/location. This location is in north scottsdale, off the 101 and raintree

Seth: The Academy is in the same park as the Desert Botanical Garden - which is Papago Park. When I looked at the map, it is deceptive to me because it is online and I am accustomed to reading maps with a scalable distance. They provide a scale bar but it is never the same twice depending on how the image is pulled up. Hard on Luddite map makers.

    Seth, Betsy, Carol.

I need to get hosting for a client.
Their site will be fairly simple.
Can you recommend a hosting company?

    July 30, 2013

Seth, and Chris. In a distributed Linux hosting set up, this report is only going to tell you.how many domains are assigned to that ip. This does not mean they are all hosting sites. Even if they were, it's not as black and white as you suggest. Most distributed Linux hosting is segmented by clusters of servers doing specific task associated with hosting (customer data, Linux, Apache, SQL, PHP, Email, etc). These clusters have load balancer s, and other overseeing servers that ensure bandwidth etc.

Just came across this write-up on hosting. I know many others here question the best hosting options, as do I. Take this for what its worth. :-)

I have been using Liquid Web for over 2 years now. They offer shared, VPS, Cloud, and Dedicated services and have really great support for all of them. Phone, chat, and email support is 24/7 and they will go to the furthest extent to help with any issue they can. They will look at your website code and tell you where a problem is occuring but stop short of fixing it for the most part. Also from a performance perspective they have some of the fastest tools.pingdom.com response times I have seen.
