    Hey All,
Anyone who went to K'ODonnell's after last month's meetup may want to double check their receipt. I discovered an overcharge on the tip... have it in dispute with the credit union.

Does anyone know of a good pricing table plugin to make
    nice looking price tables?

    September 20, 2013

    • Seth C.

definitely let us know if whatever you find works out, so that we may reference it in the future!

      September 27, 2013

    • Mark R.

Ok I will. It's going on my own website to market my services. You'll see it when I submit it for inclusion on the resources page of arizonawp.org.

      September 27, 2013

  • Seth C.

Looks like the meetup video DID end up recording. Not sure why it took almost a week for youtube to post it, but I'm happy it wasn't lost: http://arizonawp.org/arizona-wordpress-meetups/north-valley/

So, between a development partner and I, we accidentally ended up with an extra developer subscription to elegantthemes.com that they won't refund. If anyone is interested in it, we'd give it to you for the cost of a Personal subscription ($39) but you'd get the full Developer subscription ($89 value, gives access to all Photoshop files and all extra plugins). Let me know! I use Elegant Themes for most of my client sites. They're great.

Jeremy, I will take it off your hands if still available. Jeff

      September 25, 2013

    • Jeremy

It is now sold. Thanks for your interest.

      September 25, 2013

  • Kerry T.

So sorry I could not make it. Dental work the day before just left me really out of it.

    September 20, 2013

  • Bruce K.

I had hoped to be in town for this but that is not going to happen. Will there be a livecast or a recording?

    September 18, 2013

    • Bruce K.

One tip for future casts: try not to walk over to the screen if possible. The audio drops out and it is not possible to hear what is being said.

      September 20, 2013

    • Seth C.

I was unable to find the broadcast recording after it was over... so I'm glad that, at least it streamed out to you!

Awesome mtg as always... so much useful info! To those of you at the mtg who said you have extra work, I'm looking for projects (WP sites requiring no major Dev). Thx

    September 20, 2013

  • Seth C.

I'm glad you all enjoyed it, I work really hard before I give presentations like this, so it feels good when I'm appreciated.

Yeah, good job last night. I enjoyed the variable variables that were brought up, as much as I hate debugging that code ;)

      September 20, 2013

  • Lori

Lots of good information... most of which was over my head. I am hoping for osmosis of the info. ;-)

    2 · September 20, 2013

    • Mark R.

Counting on osmosis here as well.

      September 20, 2013

  • Brandy L.

Woot! What an informative and interactive 1st developer's session. Thanks Seth!

    September 20, 2013

  • Jeff

Nice event, great job Seth presenting with character. Good to meet so many talented and passionate people!

    September 20, 2013

  • Trisha

Awesome event - was great to meet so many of you! I'm really looking forward to more WP meetups, both for users and developers. Thanks Seth, for putting on a great presentation. :-)

Great event, and nice to meet you guys!

If any of you would be interested in helping develop a new site for Ignite Phoenix (ignitephoenix.com), email me at [masked]. Thanks!

Look forward to the next meetup.

    • Betsy C.

Hi Shaina - glad to see you there tonight, and I'm sorry that we didn't get a chance to chat. I hope to see you again soon at Co+Hoots!

      September 19, 2013

    • Shaina R.

You too, Betsy! Thanks for inviting me. Sorry I had to jet right after Seth's talk, but we'll catch up again soon!

      September 20, 2013

  • Betsy C.

Thank you to everyone who attended tonight!

We had some great talent in the room, and I'd like to get some of you up in front of the group as presenters in the near future. You don't have to be an experienced speaker to do 10 minutes on "My Favorite Plugin" or "My Favorite Theme" or even "My Favorite Function." And of course we also need keynote presenters.

Please get in touch with me if you're willing & interested. Otherwise I'll probably just guilt you into speaking anyway!

    excellent topics and presenters

  • Jeff A.

    Well organized. Well Attended.

    1 · September 19, 2013

  • Seth C.

I've updated the schedule and started my slides. Still looking for somebody to present on my favorite plugins... message me if your interested.

    September 17, 2013

  • Seth C.

Ok, the topics set as #2. Properly using the Template Hierarchy for themes and why most themes are "doing it wrong". I'm glad you all have interest in the other topics, we will take a vote as well as collect possible presenters for the next topic. Or, if you all just dying for me to present again (as unlikely as that may be!) I'll present on the most popular topic in the next developers meetup, most likely in February after WordCamp.

    September 14, 2013

  • Jeff A.

child themes++ Also a slide show for Header images, rather than the stock WP Twenty Eleven / Thirteen Themes new image on refresh.

    September 14, 2013

  • Trisha

Great list of topics - the ones I'm *most* interested in are 4, 5, and 6, but if you can get to it I'm also interested in learning more about building child themes.

    September 14, 2013

  • Seth C.

Just as a note, anyone who comes to the first meeting will get to vote on the second meetings topic... though I may not be presenting it (if somebody else is willing / more knowledgeable on the topic)

    September 12, 2013

  • Kerry T.

OK this is probably off-topic. I am trying to enable/configure xdebug to integrate with Netbeans since I use Netbeans for all my code editing.

Is there anyone using Netbeans & xdebug?

    September 12, 2013

    • Seth C.

sorry, not me. I use phpstorm, which also has the ability to use xdebug though I haven't used it for anything.

      September 12, 2013

  • Ben K.

This will be my first time attending. I've always been interested but the topics were never advanced enough for me.

    I'm interested in topics 1, 5 and 8.

I'm also interested in revisions for a secondary wysiwyg editor.

Ok Dev's and Dev wannabe's, I need more ideas of "what you wish you knew how to do in WordPress". Joe Flemming talked about performance in August, so lets skip that topic for now. Give me your own topic or vote on these:

    1. GIT plugin skeleton class and properly saving plugin meta
    2. Properly using the Template Hierarchy for themes and why most themes are "doing it wrong"
    3. How to use and troubleshoot do_actions and how to troubleshoot when nothing happens with add_action
    4. Proper ways to add javascript and stylesheets using enqueues" (and why a good theme is vital to enabling them.)
    5. WordPress Ajax, setting it up and using it for admin and front-end.
    6. Advanced Gravity Forms - Building "front end editors" for custom online business workflows
    7. Using the Types and Views plugin - and never coding your CPT's ever again.
    8. Coding safely so your not inviting hackers into your code - escapes, hashing and obfuscating.
    9. 2-Step WordPress Authentication
    10. Building Custom Rewrites

Thanks Brian. I wasn't sure if the DB could be accessed outside of the hosting account.

      Thanks!

I am looking at a few plug-ins and am wondering if anyone has had experience with these, or might recommend something else...

I use WooCommerce without any problems or complaints, but my gateway is Paypal.

      August 29, 2013

    • Terence C.

WooCommerce is robust enough for small site with 300 or less products. With 300+ more products, it will become slow even on VPS.

Are there any certain file permissions I should have set on my WP folders in order to make it more secure?

Here is a post on LinkedIn about Host Gator changing their servers, causing BackupBuddy to not backup to the correct file.

Does anyone know of a way to easily delete 14,000 approved comments that accumulated on an unmaintained site?

    August 18, 2013

    • Seth C.

Move all comments back to pending (probably using PHP, GUI may limit you to 20 per page load). Once they are pending, you should be able to manually execute the Akismet check existing comments feature.

      August 19, 2013

    • Terence C.

I guess not everyone knows about MySQL query. I would just do that from phpmyadmin.

      August 19, 2013

  • Seth C.

Oh and I worked really hard on our North page, organizing all the content, getting the video's embedded, adding relevant links, please check it out:

I'd like to hear about the proper way to setup and save settings (for plugins, themes) in the admin panel.

I've done it various times but it still has proven a bit problematic for me and I must be following the wrong examples on what's the best way to do it.

Also, not directly related to this upcoming meetup, but perhaps following this one, I'd like to do a presentation on CSRF and WordPress. I'd like to explain and demo CSRF vulnerabilities and show how WP developers can protect against them.

    • Seth C.

awesome, I'll get you setup to present at the second developers quarterly
