I was told that yes, today is Game Depot's gaming day - starts at 10. I'm going there first and then later to Qdoba.

Isn't Game Depot doing their monthly board game day on this day?

A quote from someone on BGG: " I think it comes down to two things, the first of which is theme. Most games I love are elegant and abstracted, but I can accept a lot more complexity if it's in service of a theme that interests me. . . .

The second is repeat play. I don't learn a complex game for the first play or the third, I learn it for the 10th and the 20th. My ideal gaming experience is not learning a new game, it's playing one I love with other people who love it too. That's when the rules get out of the way and the moves really start to mean something. Lighter games allow a group to get to that stage much quicker, which is why I'm happy to play a wide variety of those. But complex games take longer, and the corollary is that I only really need a few of them."

If you don't have the patience to learn new games, which we tend to bring a lot, maybe you should should sit by yourself and wait for someone to play your stale old games.

On Nov. 23, I was with the group for 11 hours. During that time we played only three games. I'm not one who enjoys long long games. I hope we can find games we've played before so there doesn't have to be a teaching session before every game. Or maybe games that don't require so much time to teach. I have some of those with me - strategy games, not party games, but quick to teach. But best for me would be games that we already know.
