Our Thanksgiving in the summertime last year was such a great event that I thought we should try Christmas in Aug. We will be having a Christmas pot-luck on Sat evening. We will also be doing the gift exchange. So bring something outdoor related for this exchange. We will be reading Twas the night before Christmas Poem like we did at the Christmas Party in years past and doing the Right Left game.

This narrow, winding body of water looks more like a canyon-bound river than a lake. Nestled between forested canyon walls it provides picturesque water recreation in a secluded, wooded setting.

The Arizona Fish and Game department plants rainbow trout annually and some browns also are present in the lake. There’s plenty of sightseeing, wildlife watching, hiking and mountain biking available here in these canyon-carved uplands. If just talking about all this activity makes you want to kick back and relax with nothing more strenuous to do than watch the squirrels bury pine seeds, then this forested area is probably just the place for you.

So grab some firewood and your toys and come on up out of the heat for a 4 day weekend of fun and relaxation.*** Also it may rain so come prepared****

We will be up there from Fri morning to Monday afternoon. You will need to bring lots of water and a potty. (_) as we will not be in the campground. The space for this trip will be limited so get on the list early

You will not want to miss this trip. It is something to see. Amazing water and even better views. Pictures cannot do it justice!

Thank you Marsha for such a well-organized event. I was the LAST one to leave (the people in the back who were going to stay another night, ended up leaving before me). The weather was almost perfect, for those of you who were afraid to come up due to forecast. Thanks Arlene for cooking me breakfast both days. You make great over-easy!

Had a great time at first AOAG meetup! Thanks Marsha for all the organizing & great welcoming stories & coffee. For this i forgive you for asking me to introduce myself right after i took a bite of food :) Everyone was so very friendly & willing to help with every little or big thing lol. Doug for lending me your flashlight, Eric for blowing up my air mattress, the guy who loves fires as much or more than me (Darrin i think) and kept it going the night i arrived so late ~ made it worth it to sit around the fire & chat a bit. Arlene & Liz who were determined i didn't starve the first morning, & Debra we survived our 1st! Loved waking up & all i could see out of my windows & the open back of my suv were trees, mostly blue ski, a butterfly, & the quiet of the great outdoors. Can't remember all the names of those i talked with, but remember the faces & the stories. Will do again.

Okay, I am very late in getting back on, but correct me if I am wrong - it sounds like there will be a couple extra Propane Tanks so I don't need to bring one to cook my turkey with. My kids and I will be getting up there btwn 2 and 3on Saturday, just in time to start cooking the turkey. Marsha, will it be a 6pm dinner time? Thanks, Ray, for getting the peanut oil.

I'll pick up bag of potatoes. Was going to bring pie but looks like others want to do that. Sounds like there will be at least 4 or so.

    August 28, 2013

  • Marsha

If you are looking for something to bring we need at least one more 5 gal propane tanks to cook the turkeys , And I could be wrong but we could use mashed potatoes and I will bring gravy. If you want to bring bags of spuds we can cook them up there. Also, At the dollar store they have GLOW STICKS that make into a ball. I picked up a few and we can hang them from the trees to look like Christmas bulbs that light up

To whomever is going there early to pick our dispersed campsite, hopefully you can select one where there is not a deep ditch (gutter) for my low clearance Toyota camper to get hung up in like at Woods Canyon Lake and Bear Canyon Lake, going from the road to the campsite "driveway" (usually a deep ditch alongside the road). Several airbag installers told me airbags are not successful on my camper, because truck is too heavy to get sufficient lift. They recommended springs, but Dunbar Spring company told me springs will lift my tail higher than front, my camper will not be level for my fridge to work, and I will always drive sloped forward, pitching weight on my front wheels. So I still have not done anything about my raising up my low clearance mini-RV. I am bringing MEAT, Costco rotisserie chicken, which was popular and appreciated at Woods Canyon campout. I have fold-out little suitcase picnic table, seats 4 "lighter people" (someone crushed my other table and broke it).
