  • OK people, I have looked and called everyone and I have no chose but to postpone this event due to the Government Shutdown. All our favorite places are closed and what is opened is packed to the brim. I will re-post this event at a later date. You can thank your Government for this one.. Sorry Guys :(

After talking to Marsha, agreed to wait for a reschedule of Apache lake, instead of trying to reserve Alamo lake.

I went on Apache trail this past Saturday and there was camping there and restrooms open.
I ended at the camp site that is on the beach at Apache Lake on the left about 32 miles from Idaho Road and the start of North Apache Trail / SR88.

The exit is onto FR79 / service road 79

toward the bottom of the hill take the first left to the beach. This would be a great spot if we keep the meetup. here is a google map link:

Hi Marsha, the weekend of the 25th, would be find with me, there are 2 group sites at Alamo lake, we should be able to get one, I would reserve it, it would be around 20. dollars per vehicle for the weekend. and less with 10 people or more.

    October 15, 2013

    • Marsha

Ok I will make you an organizer and you can post that info, In the past it has been hard to get people to want to pay for sites but you can try if you want

      October 15, 2013

  • Craig F.

Marsha, I just found out today Monday, that Alamo lake has one group site available for this weekend, the cost is 15.00 per day for the group site and 15.00 dollars per vechicle to enter, I can reserve it today, what do you think ? Also there are four tables and four vault toilets, The Ranger said, there is a large parking area for trailers and motor homes and tents, also has a ramada.

Hi Craig - I'd be up for it. Also - I talked with another member on here who went to the Apache Lake area over the weekend and she said it was open - not sure what's happening there. I'm going to give Marsha the member's contact info so they can figure it out. Either area is fine for me. Thanks for looking into Alamo Lake - really don't want to see this event canceled...

      October 14, 2013

    • Marsha

Craig. That is a bit far out there for me but if you care to host it we can make the change. Might want to try the weekend of the 25 if you do. As for Apache lake. I know that the marina is open but the campground are still closed That is what I am being told

Canyon Point, up on the Rim, has a big group site.............not sure if they'll still be open or not..........10 day for Forest Lakes shows mid 60's for highs, 40's at night

I was so looking forward to seeing everyone. I've been away so long and this is really a bummer. But thank you Marsh for everything you and Kathleen do. I am proud to be a part of this group from the beginning. After all the hardships I've been through in the past 3 years, I'm REALLY looking forward to camping out again. I've got my raincheck and I will be there for the next campout, God willing!

Indeed, postponing is the thing to do. Hoping the beautiful places we enjoy will be re-opening soon. It's a shame, the fed. government has been shutdown over Congress's failure to fund daily operations and pay the bills already incurred and serve the American people.

      October 10, 2013

  • Vicki W.

Unfortunately for me, family business still prevails. I will miss all of you!

    October 9, 2013

  • Faith A.

Marsha, are you thinking about canceling? What about Canyon Lake?

    October 7, 2013

    • Faith A.

I think we can get multiple sites. True, we'll have to pay but it shouldn't be that much per person and it's a great campsite.

      October 8, 2013

    • Marsha

any time we had done that we have to pay for the sites up front, so If we have a bunch of people cancel we are still left with the fee. So far that has never worked out so good

      October 9, 2013

  • Jeff

Incorrect post about campsite prices at canyon lake. The prices have not changed. Tent sites off the lake are $25 a day. That includes 6 people and 1 vehicle or $75 for a week.. They have limited availability for next weekend.

    October 9, 2013

    • Marsha

you right I re-read it and that was for a week

      October 9, 2013

  • Marsha

Great idea Adam. It is a bit far from me so I will need someone to host it. Any takers?

    October 9, 2013

How about Alamo Lake State Park? I went to the website and from what I can tell there are sites available.

    **LATEST NEWS**

Federal shutdown suspends most activities on Arizona BLM lands
As a result of the federal government shutdown, essentially all services provided by the Bureau of Land Management will be suspended, with the exception of law enforcement and emergency response functions. Approximately 4,000 recreation facilities, including visitor centers, facilities, campgrounds, boat ramps and other recreation sites, will be closed.

    October 8, 2013

  • Adam

Why not just choose another site that is BLM or State land? There is plenty of time to notify everyone.

    October 7, 2013

17th is supposed to be a big deadline...........hopefully it will be over soon.

Dead Horse Ranch state park may be another option. There's good fishing in the lagoons and the Verde River is next door.

    October 7, 2013

    • Ozzie

There is only one place I'm familar enough to recommend but there is no place to fish, its sacluded and in the middle of the woods. For me its Stoneman lake, there is a catch, its dry camping, aka no running water or restrooms. When I checked yesterday it was still open.

      October 7, 2013

    • Marsha

      Thanks Ozzie

The area will be especially crowded this weekend at the Apache Lake Marina/campground/store. This weekend is the Apache Lake Music festival. You can camp on the private marina property, but Burnt Corral is closed. With the National Forest campground closed the marina area will be packed....
