Intermediate Hike on South Mountain

Note the new 4pm start time.  Always nicer to hike in daylight where possible!

INTERMEDIATE HIKE COVERS HILLS AND WASHES OVER THE EAST END OF SOUTH MOUNTAIN PARK.

The trail head is located at the Beverly Canyon parking lot at the south end of 46th Street. From Baseline - turn south on 46th St. and follow the road until it ends at the parking lot.  The map link points to a spot on 46th Street that is not the trail head.  The parking lot is at the end of 46th Street.  This is not the same parking lot as Pima Canyon Road.

We will start promptly at 4pm.

There are a variety of trails that we can access from this starting point.  I am thinking we will head west up Javalena Canyon.  From the top, we will then select a route back to the parking lot that will either involve some challenging hills (e.g Ridge Line Trail), or a longer distance (e.g. National to Desert Classic and East Loop or west on Mormon Loop, back on National Trail and Beverley Canyon).

There are a lot of up and downs and light to moderate hills. This hike takes approximately 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours (depending on the route we choose) to complete at a moderate (approx 3 mph) pace.

Rattlesnakes (in hotter weather), and other critters are prevalent in this area and are capable of defending themselves.  Please pay careful attention to the ground in front of you and to where you place your feet and hands.

You will be responsible for your own safety and equipment.

Equipment: at least 2 liters water, sturdy hiking shoes, boots or trail runners (loose gravel, do not wear tennis shoes) first aid kit, flashlight or headlamp.

While we may start in daylight, the sun sets fairly quickly and we will be hiking in the dark.  I strongly recommend that you bring a flashlight or headlamp.

One last thing.  Please, if you change your mind about attending this hike, let me know!  Nothing worse than waiting at the parking lot for a 'no show'.  If you can't make it at the last minute, or if you are running late, please call or text me at[masked] to let me know.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
