BEGINNER HIKE COVERS HILLS AND WASHES OVER THE EAST END OF SOUTH MOUNTAIN PARK.
The trail head is located at the Beverly Canyon parking lot at the south end of 46th Street. From Baseline - turn south on 46th St. and follow the road until it ends at the parking lot. The map link points to a spot on 46th Street that is not the trail head. The parking lot is at the end of 46th Street. This is not the same parking lot as Pima Canyon Road.
There are a variety of trails that we can access from this starting point. We usually select a route that is about 3 1/2 to 4 miles with a moderate 550 feet elevation gain total and would be considered a beginner hike. There are a lot of up and downs and light hills. This hike takes approximately 1 1/2 hours to complete at a mild pace.
Rattlesnakes (in hotter weather), and other critters are prevalent in this area and are capable of defending themselves. Please pay careful attention to the ground in front of you and to where you place your feet and hands.
You will be responsible for your own safety and equipment.
Equipment: at least 2 liters water, sturdy hiking shoes, boots or trail runners (loose gravel, do not wear tennis shoes) first aid kit, flashlight or headlamp. In hotter weather bring a bandanna or neck wrap, ice pack, hat and sunscreen.
We might be hiking the end of the trail in the dark, bring a flashlight or headlamp.
Again, this hike will start promptly at 6pm. During the summer months especially, it is too warm to stand around the parking lot waiting. Unless we hear from you that you are running a few minutes late or stuck in traffic, we will not wait for you.
Finally, if you realize you cannot make it in time, or decide not to join us at the last minute, please call me or send a text to[masked] 7730.
