Physical Computing: Ruby and Robots!

Chris will discuss the evolving industry of physical computing and how Rubyists can become involved in this hot new DIY field. We'll discuss the basics of microcontrollers and how hobbyist setups empower anyone to start integrating servos, motors, and sensor input into their code and applications. Demonstrations will include ruby integration with an Arduino microcontroller and programatic control of a Sphero robot!

Python-ist Elliot Williams (local-area native) has a book about microcontrollers too! http://www.mediander.com/books/9781449355784/make/

The difference between "AVR" and "Arduino" is that AVR is closer to the chrome. More of a back-to-basics approach.

I just got an email from The Pragmatic guys about a sale. One of the books on the list is "Arduino: A Quick Start Guide" for $9.95 (normally $35). I think that one was mentioned at the meetup.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
