I hope you all enjoyed the weekend. We had a great turnout on Saturday for the first Book Club meeting. It was very exciting to meet so many new people. Thanks to all those who turned up and especially those that travelled across suburbs!
We had a good discussion about The Slap. Most agreed it was a very well written easy to read book. Opinions on the characters were varied with some readers finding all characters pretty unlikeable and others finding their flaws a more honest portrayal of many middle class relationships. Tellingly perhaps, in a recent interview Christos Tsiolkas was asked if he did have hope for the young generation of Australia. There was a very long pause before he answered ??Yes...I think so..?
We also agreed the book for the next meeting ?The Dispossessed? by Ursula Le Guin. Winner of the Hugo and the Nebula award, ?The Dispossessed? is considered a masterwork in the Science Fiction genre. We are keen to take suggestions for different books so we can stretch our comfort zones a bit so feel free to bring your suggestions to the next meetings.
The next meeting has been set up on the meet up website ? Sat 27 June 2pm again at Grumpy?s Green. Check it out on the meetup website & RSVP if you can come along!
Hope you all have a great week.
