We’ll be joining the monks for their daily, evening meditation at the Thai Buddhist temple. The evening will start with the monks chanting for half an hour. English translations of the chants are available. Then there will be about half an hour of sitting meditation and possibly walking meditation. The monks will provide some explanation for the meditation if you don’t have any experience with meditating. You don't need to bring anything except an open mind.
We basically have a personal invitation to join them since a few of the monks used to be students in one of my ESL classes. They openly invited me to join them at their meditations and festivals at the temple. I have already been to one of their festivals which included a meditation, and I really enjoyed it! They were happy to talk with me again when I contacted them about letting our group join them for the regular evening meditation.
Please arrive at 5:45, so that we can get settled, and so we don’t have people coming in after the meditation has started. You can use either the double doors at the front entrance, which should be open, or you can ring the buzzer at the side entrance. Then one of the monks will escort us up to the meditation room.
