This may be the most fun you’ve ever had learning a language! It will be a fun, social environment where you’ll learn to speak Italian at the same time. Each lesson will focus on specific topics and expressions that you would need while traveling in Italy. Each lesson will start with an explanation of the theme and language for the evening and then we’ll move on to practicing while we interact with various activities like dialogues, games, charades, etc. The evening is designed to get you speaking right away, even if you don’t have any experience with Italian. This is the right level for you if you don’t speak any Italian yet, or if you already have some of the basics and feel you need practice. With languages, if you don’t use it, you lose it!
We’ll continue with weekly lessons on Thursday evenings for 10 weeks. If you can join us every week, that would be great, but if you can only come to one of the lessons that would be great as well. Since the lessons are designed in a way that topics/expressions are explained at the beginning of the evening, you will have a foundation for what we’re going to work on that evening (even if you have never spoken Italian before).
The drop-in price is $15 per person each class. Lessons are scheduled every Thursday until June 19th. This is a great price for this type of lesson with a professional language teacher.
It would be a good idea to bring a notebook to take some notes, but aside from that, you don’t need to bring anything. Handouts will be provided. Be prepared to have a fun evening!
About the Teacher
I (Jennifer Z) will be the teacher for the Italian lessons. My job in the real world is teaching people to speak another language. I teach at a local college, and also grade language proficiency tests. I’ve been teaching English to people from other countries for about 15 years and have taught people from all over the world, including teaching English to Italians while living in Italy for 7 years. This gave me an interesting perspective on the differences between the two languages. I’ve taught all levels from children to adults, beginner to advanced speakers. My background in ESL (English as a Second Language), and teaching children has influenced the way I like to teach. I like it to be fun! Most ESL classes put more emphasis on experiential learning rather than grammar/book learning, even though I’m something of a grammar queen and can explain it to you in a simple way without using a book. This is the way I like to learn a language, and this is the method I will be using in these Italian lessons.
