Balistreri Vineyards Italian Antipasti + Movie Night Under the Stars

Come join us for this WONDERFUL Italian experienceItalian food, wine, gelato, and movie with popcorn under the stars at a local winery! The evening starts with a delightful Italian food experience, including wine and fabulous Italian style pizza from a wood-fired oven, and of course… gelato! Then we will watch the Italian movie Baaria. The movie will be in Italian with subtitles. This movie is by Giuseppe Tornatore, the same filmmaker who did Cinema Paradiso (one of the most popular Italian movies ever), so it should be a GREAT film, and I’m SUUUUPER excited! How to Find our Group:

The tickets say that doors open at 6:30pm. In my past experience, I’ve arrived at opening time, and the place has already been PACKED (and a bit difficult to work through!) Sooo… plan on arriving EARLY!! We will be meeting at 6:00pm. I’ve spoken with Balistreri, and they said they typically open the doors about 15 minutes early, so we will plan on entering at 6:15pm. If you want to join our group, plan on being there by that time. We will NOT be waiting for people arriving late. If you arrive late, it will up to you to come in and wade through the crowd to find us. I will probably send out my cell number, but I can’t promise respond to it. With a plate in one hand, and glass of wine in the other, and trying to work through the crowds and interact with the meetup members there, I likely won’t even notice my phone…. Sooo, plan on arriving at 6:00pm to meet our group at the entrance.

About the Movie ~ Baaria:

Giuseppe Tornatore directed this grand-scale portrait of life and love over several decades in a small town in Sicily. The Torrenuovas are a family of peasant shepherds who have lived and worked in Bagheria (aka Baaria) though many generations. In the years before the rise of Mussolini, the family often found themselves working for Don Giacinto (Lollo Franco), a local tycoon who often used his power and position to take advantage of others. Young Peppino Torrenuova senses a profound injustice in the way Don Giacinto treats his elders, and as the years pass the young man becomes a passionate advocate for social change. Once he grows to be a man, Peppino (Francesco Scianna) falls in love with beautiful Mannina (Margareth Made) and they get married, starting a family of their own over the objections of Mannia's parents, who believe she can do better. As Peppino throws in his lot with the local Communist party and works to make life better for his fellow peasants, we see a number of important historical events through his eyes and watch the fortunes of his town and his family rise and fall. Featuring guest appearances by Monica Bellucci, Raoul Bova and Donatella Finocchiaro, Baaria was the opening night attraction at the 2009 Venice International Film Festival.

If you've been procrastinating: Get your tickets! Get your tickets! Get your tickets! If you don't get a ticket by Friday morning, I would imagine they will be sold out. If you don't have a ticket by that point, please update your status to "not going" so that we know we won't be expecting you. FYI: They will have chairs for the movie, so no need to bring a blanket to sit on.

Reminder to get your tickets for the Italian Movie Night! I called the other day to see if they still have tickets, and they do. However, they said they will typically sell out by Friday morning. Don't wait and miss out on this GREAT event! I'm SO excited! By the way, I saw that the weather forecast for this weekend looks pretty good and hot. Even if there is a bit a rain, there is space to eat inside if we want to, and even though the movie is outside, it's under a laaarge tent!
