Yoga at The River

Yoga, which comes from the Sanskrit yuj word meaning “union,” originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. There are many forms of yoga, but in general, yoga focuses on breathing techniques (pranayama), postures (asanas), flexibility, and meditation (dhyana). It can be very spiritual, linking the mind, body, and spirit.

The last yoga event we did received great feedback, with requests for more. It’s time for more! I just found out that my other favorite yoga teacher in Denver is at a new studio and they are offering a special deal. One of the things I look for in a yoga teacher is someone who encourages a state of presence, an internal space of meditation while in movement, someone who promotes being in the “here and now”, rather than just going through a series of poses. Tina Porter is one of those teachers, but it’s not just me who thinks she’s great. She was voted 5280′s Top of the Town in 2010 and best yoga teacher in the Denver area by the Denver Post two years in a row. Whether you are new to yoga or a long time yogi, come find out for yourself!

This new studio is a space that invites the outdoors inside, creating the most tranquil of yoga environments. They are currently offering a special to new students to promote their new studio. You can get 10 classes for only $1 (if this is your first time to their studio). All classes must be used by December 15, 2012.

Follow the instructions:

1. Get your 10 classes for $1 by going to:
http://www.weseektheriver.com/10-yoga-classes-for-1/

2. Fill out the form

3. Wait for the confirmation email. Print out the email or you can show it to them on your phone. (Make sure to check your junk mail. My email got routed to my junk mail and I kept waiting for it.)

We can only have 12 people for this event to keep from overcrowding the room, but even if you can’t get into the event, you can still take advantage of the 10 for $1 deal and go try out the studio and another one of Tina’s classes.

Please arrive between 5:00- 5:15. Bring your mat. If you don't have a mat, you can rent one there. Remember to bring your print out of your email (to get the offer), and your $1. There is a free parking lot on the north side of the building.

I inquired about renting a yoga mat (left a message), but no one has returned my call yet. I'd rather rent to see if I am going to like yoga first, but will buy if I have to. Jennifer, do you know if I can rent it on the spot?

Update: I called again and the lady said they rent mats for $1 and are located right in the front area. They have showers, changing areas, and lockers...but bring your own locks. Apparently, there is also some party going on at the same time with the architect that worked on their building.

I'm a little unsure about the heated room part. Has anyone done this before?

Well as it turns out, my husband closes at work Thursday and I don't have anyone to stay home with my son. Bummed! Still going to use the deal though ;)

Thank you, Jennifer, for getting clarification on this. I don't believe HOT yoga is of benefit to most people - especially in this dry climate and especially in the winter time when one has to go back out in the cold.

I'd LOVE to join this but I have another engagement that day :( Thank you so much for posting about 10 classes for $1 deal though! I'm going to sign up! Looking forward to another meetup to finally meet everyone!

I've never done yoga before (except for following a video tape years ago). Jennifer, is this class geared to all levels?

    November 12, 2012

    • Jennifer Z

Yes, it's open to all levels. I did let the teacher know that some have not practiced yoga before. Teachers often give alternate poses for people who aren't able to do the more challenging poses.
